| I troll with 5" to 7" Lures ,,, have always used 4' long wire leaders ,,, in that I use smaller lures, do you think it would be safe to use Florocarbon leaders instead of wire ?? I'm worried that a big fish might take the whole lure in its mouth and cut the Floro leader resulting in a nice fish swimming around with a lure stuck in its mouth --- what do you use ?? --- jimjimjim |

Ive never had or been told of any fish biting through 100lb fluoro, but im sure it can happen. |

Location: Canada | I troll in LSC quite a bit and tie my own leaders from 125lb mono leader material. This leader is about 5' long and I use it to troll everything from 5" lures to like 9" lures or larger. Never had a problem. |

| 36" StealthTackle 130# Trolling leaders will do the job just fine! |

| Also A "Musky Dick" Leader in the same length and LB test Will do just as good, maybe better as a Stealth or any of the larger guys. And they are sold at a reasonable and still much lower than the others. |

Location: Oregon, WI | I've had one fish bite through 100 lb flouro a few years ago. Granted I wasn't trolling, but was casting a Rubber Dubber. Felt the bump and set the hook. Felt nothing, no weight, nothing. That fish chomped right through it on the strike. So yes it does happen. |

| I have John from Stealth Tackle make me 60" 100# floro leaders for trolling caught hundreds of fish on them trolling no problems. They are fine if you are trolling open water or weeds.
If you are trolling structure (rock or wood) you will want to go with wire then I have some 48" -49 strand coated wire leaders from Stealth for that.

| Tard ---- if no one is actually experiencing bite-offs with Florocarbon ,,,, then it seems apparent that we do not need to use leaders at all ,, we can simply attach the line to the lure,,,, if the fish dont cut the Floro ,, they wont cut the 100# test braid either ---- ???? ----- jimjimjim |

Location: Hayward, WI | Jim, you may not have experience with fluoro. Try cutting fluoro with a knife and then use the same knife to cut braid. The fluoro is a lot harder to cut, especially if you are using 130# plus, which is what I'm comfortable with. |

I think a lot of guys use fluoro leaders for the reduction in visibility of the line, not just to prevent biteoffs. Perhaps the visibility isn't an issue all the time, but it cant hurt as long as the leader doesnt impede the action of the lure.
Also a nice long fluoro leader will help reduce injury to the fish in the event it gets wrapped up in the line.

Plus it doesn't kink easy. Had more wire leaders fail because of a slight kink; ones I thought were fine. Still use wire on LOTW though! That's a must in my eyes. |

EASY Fellas! Everyone on here doesn't know EVERYTHING there is to know about muskie fishing! Hell, some people may even try and learn from you! LOL |

Location: London, England | I like an 8-12" solid wire leader with a 3-4' heavy mono or fluoro leader attached to it. The wire covers the teeth and the fluoro/mono protects the fish that roll up on the line. Seems like the best solution to me. |
