| Last weekend I was using my terrova for trolling. I hit something and the shaft tilted and ripped the screws out of the boat where it was mounted. I rushed up to the front and grabbed it before it fell in the water. I then bolted the base onto the boat and no damage or scratch to the terrova or the ipilot functions. That shaft is indeed indestructable.
I used the machine screws that came with it and simply screwed it in. If you are installing one I think you need to think about bolting it to your boat instead of simply using the screws. |

Location: Wisconsin | Good to know the shaft is tough, but wonder if the screws didn't give way if you would have bent or broke something else?? Quick thinking grabbing her before she went to the bottom!

| I've never even heard of anyone using machine screws instead of bolts to mount a trolling motor to a boat..
I've replaced a few after buying used boats too, and the old ones were all bolted on.

| Man you got lucky, holy crap. That Terrova would be out of your site instantly had it hit the water.
I just mounted my terrova on my new to me boat yesterday. I opened the holes on the terrova's aluminum base to fit 3/8 bolts, before I opened them up 1/4" bolts would be the biggest that fit. Ya 3/8 is over kill, and I used all 6 holes but I dont want to be in the position you were in. |

Location: WI | Mine is bolted on with a MinnKota quick release plate. Nice thing about the plate is it has holes for a padlock. |

Location: Tennessee | I used two of those expanding style machine screws near the very nose in mine then bolted the rear where I could reach easier. Definately a good idea for at least a couple bolts. |

| Make sure to use a backboard and washers as well to distribute the forces across a larger area if something like that happens. |
