| It appears that canada is not in my budget right now and vermillion looks very doable for me and my kids. I am not looking for any specifics but what lake section would you target in mid-june and what section would you target in mid august? Not looking for spots just a lake section. Those are the two times I could do it, preferrably august. Any info is apreciated.[:)] | |

Any section of the Lake will produce at any time of the year.
What area that produces a litle more over the other would likely depend on Weather, wind, ice out date...?
West over East, East over West?
Bunch of hooey!
Nice places to stay on each end and in the middle as well.
:)
West end has more shallows bays, weeds and points and stuff to duck wind.
East end has it all too, but it more wide open?
Islands, humps, reefs, points, weeds, rocks, docks and all that every place you travle.
Kind of a toss up to me.
LOL
Fish in June are mostly working weeds with some not showing up on the rock until Late June early July, depending on the weather system each season.
We who fish them a lot on the Big V. have very different ways as well as locations of finding them so there is no real stead fast pattern to mention.
August can be very trickey some years, but these fish can be HOT as any time of the season on others.
They can be in the Weeds, on the rock, under docks, out on mid lake structure, bouncing between Islands, in the maney Narrows.
Fun hunting them down!
Cool thing about this BIG body of great water is to find what will work for you and the way you fish.
Great time can be had working on just getting them REALLY going, and then getting them to CHEW!
:)
More places you try and more time you keep your lure in the water on quality spots the better off you will be and the more fun you will have.
Fish to the boat or NOT!
:)
I mostly fish the East end because I live and guide on my Island all summer in the Pike Bay Narrows.
Travle West when asked and have done well, but really have no need to leave the East end myself, but enjoy the different challanges they both can provide.
Greatest place to fish I have ever found and one of the most beautiful places on this earth to us.
Hope you find what your looking for.
It is all there for you, if you just take the time to look.
Enjoy!

| Todd:
Think East End. August can be tough. If you go in June bring your smallie gear for the kids. Vermilion is a kick butt smallie fishery. Go to this site for a ton of info about places to stay.

| Todd- Check out the MN-DNR Lake Finder info -> http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/results.html
Just click on the check marks to open up the information for that Lake topic-
The MN-DNR Lake maps usually include bottom composition & vegetation maps- These helped me on Cass Lake last Sept.
Sounds like there should be some big hog's in there- Check out the Lake Survey.

| Happy hooker, I found a web site that has all the lodges and there are some reasonable ones. More expensive than many in wisconsin but not bad.
What I am looking for in a lake is a place to musky fish that is good for other species that my kids can catch often, casting lures. My kids are not live baiters at all.

| Hello,
Like Tommy said most of that east west crap is just that, crap.
I live on the east end but I also
fish and guide on the west end.
The west end can be more crowded than the east but it offers a bit more protection on some of those real windy days.
It is very different however, as far as the type of structure you fish. Points and shoreline breaks
are mainstays on the west side.
The east end has an uncountable number of midlake stuctures, but the west side is very limited in
the number of GOOD humps and rock piles.
Most of the mainlake spots on the west end, do get pounded a little more, simply because there aren't as many of them.
I do fish on the west end more in the spring, mainly because of the deep cabbage, which isn't near as abundant on the east end.
There is some good cabbage on the east end, however much of it is shallow, (less than 6ft).
The resorts on the east end are also much more affordable and the
east side of the lake is far less crowded, even on the weekends.
Big Bay in it's self is trully an anglers dream, everything that swims in this beautiful lake, can be found there in abundance.
World class smallmouth bass and excellent walleye fishing, can be had without ever using livebait.
Trolling or casting, can be very productive for walleye in August.
One major difference between the west and east end in my opinion,
when the fishing gets tough, the west side can be impossible, but the east end will produce.
If you need any info on where to stay with your family, just send me an e-mail, and I'll give you a name or 2 of places I would go.
I know you will never regret your choice of the Big V, and it just might be the trip, you have been dreaming about all of your life. [:p]

| Hey guys, thanks for all the priceless information. I would love to hire a guide but I can tell you that if I do they will have to guide 6 people. No way my kids or my parents will let me out of their site.[:)] | |
