Location: Central Wisconsin | Hi, I have a '95 esox ltd with a 50 Hp Johnson and the motor torques pretty bad due to the bent skeg. The torque tab is already maxxed out and it still pulls hard. What is the best way to fix this? I'm afraid if I try to bend it, it will snap off and I'm not sure you could weld it back on because it's cast. What is the best solution? Thanks |

| Put a piece off wood on both sides and use a couple clamps to apply even pressure. If you try to bend it you will break it. |

Location: Madison, WI | Agreed if you bend it it will break, i know cuz i snapped one on my old e-tec 2 years ago. however if it does break or you do get it straight, you can buy nice stainless skeg guards that slip over the factory skeg (or whats left of it) and install with 2 screws. then good as new |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Apply heat from a torch and with Wide side Vise grips slowly bend it straight back into normal position . Not hard to do at all.
I broke about 2" off on a rock once and bought a SS Skeg guard and that worked real good. |

Location: Oregon, WI | I broke one off years ago (mid 90's) on a johnson 30hp and they were able to weld a new one on. When they were done you couldn't tell any work was done. Remember the cost being around $100 and that included fixing the prop that was damaged in the same incident. Would imagine it would cost much more now though. |

Location: Brainerd, MN 56401 | As V18 stated you can weld cast aluminum, it's just that not all welding shops are up to the task. Make sure they have prior experience. |

| We have bent them on camp boats while in Canada and the repair price was $150.00 on the one we did last year. Not sure what they did to fix it |

| If you break it off just put a skeg guard on it which is a 100$
You could also use a jawhorse if you have one. It will apply equal pressure to both sides.

Location: Milwaukee | Rat - I have a Esox LTD with a Johnson 50 also, how fast can you run? I top out at 24 mph, which seems slow to me. ( might be my lard ass....) I busted my skag off the end of the 2010 season and ran it all last year without, with no problems. I think this year I will get one of those bolt ons. |

Location: Central Wisconsin | Dewman, trimmed correctly and by myself, I get 32 mph by gps. Thanks for the ideas everyone. I think I'll try to straighten it, and if it breaks I'll put a skeg guard on it. |
