| Hello all,
My wife and I LOVE to musky fish. We have been musky fishing together for about 3 years. We live in the Fox Valley and usually fish the Shawano area every weekend throughout the summer and continue until late fall. We are usually working 60+ hours a week in the summer, so time on the water becomes limited. We also work the night shift, usually 5pm-5am, so we are becoming a little more acclimated to night fishing. For the amount of time we fish, we are struggling to put fish in the boat (averaging 2 little ones a year). We fish the Cloverleaf Chain, Washington, The Red Lakes in Gresham, and sometimes even Shawano. Because Shawano is over 6000 acres, it becomes a little intimidating trying to put something together out there. If any of you have any suggestions to fishing the lakes in this area, we are open for suggestions. We are also hoping to try a few new lakes this year. We are hoping to hit Mission Lake and East Alaska Lake. I understand whole heartedly that the lakes in the area are fished very heavily, so feel free to PM me. We are not looking for GPS coordinates, just a little assistance to help boost our moral and help us get a few more fish in the boat and break the musky blues.
Thanks,
Eric |

| We have always wondered about fishing Elkhart and Random. Those are both South of hwy 10, so maybe we can get a few early and late season fish there. During the summer, we normally fish the Shawano area since it's only a half hour from where the boat is stored. Thanks again for the information. |

Location: Pulaski, WI | That was supposed to be DePere, as in fish the Fox River in DePere and Green Bay. Darned autocorrect. |

| I have a good friend and guide that took us on the Green Bay last September. I always see tons of fish pictures from DePere in the river on Lake-links. I have never tried, but that is a definite possibility. Thanks again. |

| You guys should consider joining one of the local Muskies Inc. chapters in your area. When you join Muskies Inc., you will have access to a ton of information and you will meet many anglers more than willing to help you out. If you don't have the time for that, consider hiring a local guide. Either will help shorten the learning curve.

Location: Green Bay, Titletown, WI | East Alaska is a decent lake. It can be a tough nugget to crack though. IMHO I wouldn't waste the extra gas. Shawano area is closer, and has better quality and numbers of fish. I would really invest some time and effort into Shawano itself. it does seem intimidating, but break it down into sections, and learn one really well, before moving on to the next one. There is a lot of big fish in that lake. But I've always had good luck on Alaska with smaller baits, bigger bass gear really. The great part about Alaska? The entire 55 acres is good muskie habitat. There is not a single bad spot on that lake to fish. If you get a follower, that just won't commit. Go back after dark, and try again. But that is also the down side. It's 55 acres, and I've seen 25 boats out there all throwing for muskie.... |

| I am not trying to "hijak" this post by any means, but I also have the same questions/thoughts. I can't always make it up north or to very productive waters every weekend and would love to learn more water close to home. I live in Green Bay and of course the Bay is always an option, but when the wind is blowing I just simply can not get my rig out there. Been trying to get the wife to let me by a bigger glass boat, but that's a whole other story, ha. I have fished East Alaska and raised one of the biggest fish I have ever seen there, but the last couple of years it has been very tough fihsing there. Not like it used to be. I have been considering Shawano and would be much appreciative of any pointers on where a guy could start on that water. Thanks for any tips in advance and again I apologize for chiming in. |
