Jason, I will try to get someone to scan in some photos of our Bass clubs Kinship fishing night. Great fun, gave away lots of prizes and rods and reels. We had hot dogs, chips, pop & ice cream for all the kids. If I can't scan them can I send them to you? Get me an address.

I bought my boat the end of June, and brought my son out a few times. We didn't catch much, but we had some fun. For Christmas I gave him a new rod & reel, and a couple Grandmas that I bought at the auction for smokey. It was great when he asked me, "Dad do you know what we need to do this summer? We need to go on a fishing vacation." 7 years old, and that made my christmas. Hopefully next year at this time, I will have lots of pictures, and some good stories.

Several outings this past summer with my 5 worm dunking nieces and nephews (ages 3-7). Those will really test your patience. For Christmas I bought my nepwhew his first spinning rod. []

I took a friend and his 9 year old son out Muskie fishing this fall. Both really dont fish and had never muskie fished before (although the son always bugs his dad to go fishing). We had a mid 40" muskie go on a sucker but lost it. We were able to see the whole thing though and even saw the muskie come back and pick the (now free sucker) off the surface about 15 feet from our boat. Needless to say, the son is now asking his dad to go out next year with us. Interesting thing is we figured he would only last a few hours but he lasted the whole day and didnt want to go in when we left. Even with a relatively slow day except for the one nice fish.

It is good to take a kid fishing, but now I find it better the other way around - my kid takes ME fishing! Two days that stick in memory:
Early March, 2002. Jon and his buddy Sergio want to take me to the Ohio River on the Gambler. Serg has not been fishing before. Drifting thru one spot, I hook a nice size (16") striped bass. A second pass finds another 2 inches larger. Both went to the live well. Sergio spent the next 20 minutes watching in facination as these fish swam around in the live well, and got his photo taken with us when we got home.
The other time, I was all packed up and ready to leave the next morning for the Cass Lake outing. Jon gets home and insists that we take the BassTracker to a small, electric motor only lake. He worm fishes and I throw a rattletrap out into the main channel. Boom, one of the biggest bass I've seen from that lake. Jon was so proud that, as my guide, he'd put me on that fish. He tells me that at least I won't be skunked, now. Good thing! m[]

I took my boy quite a few times. One trip we took the neighbor boy catfishing. I don't know how many of you have been on a hot catfish bite with two eight year old boys but I will tell you this, all I did for three hrs was redip stinkbait lures. We went thru an entire tub of stink bait. It was a blast. I did convince them that they only needed 6 for a meal and we let the rest go. We went home and ate them all. I also tag teamed a 31 inch muskie with my son. He was driving the boat, I was hanging on to the rod when the fish hit. I made sure the fish was hooked well and handed him the rod. I will find the picture to post later today. Nothing better than watching the kids have fun.

I spend quite a few days in the boat with my daughter and son, mostly chasing bluegill and whatever will bite. My son goes out musky fishing and walleye fishing with my for the night or morning runs. This year we headed to Canada for 3 days of late fall musky fishing. We boated a total of 15 fish upto 44". He landed 3 by himself, and assisted on the rest. Cranking the long lines in from trolling was a little to much. The only dissapointed was not being able to fly out, we ended up boating 7 fish that afternoon. He came home and aske mom if we could move to canada.

Can't wait till the Cave

I take my three sons fishing during the summer when I have them. It's nowhere near enough as they would like to go more and i would like to take them. I mostly guide and help them when they fish. My middle son caught his first musky, my oldest lost one and so did my youngest son. They caught a bunch of pike and smallmouth this year and my oldest caught his first walleye. They really had a blast on the flambeau flowage. I want to take them there and vermillion or little vermillion in ontario next year.

If I can ever post a pic, I have the perfect picture which screams take a kid fishing. It's of my oldest son when he was 5 reeling in a 5lb bass. His face tells the whole story. It's perfect.[]

I had kids in my boat from the beginning of the season to the end of the season.

My 8 year old, Colton, caught his first muskie....a 36" hybrid in Canada, and two others that were 48" here in the states.

I had Weston and three of his buddies up for a week on Eagle Lake, and his three friends caught their first muskies too. We caught 13 that week, with 7 more lost. Now, they think musky fishing's easy....LOL.

So, as far as kids go, it was a GREAT year!

Yes this is a plug for a great place that I have gone in Canada: check out Fireside Lodge (www.firesidelodge.com). Being that I am single and childless, I can't speak from personal experience as to how kids would react, but its fast action for muskie, pike, and smallies. The food is incredible (they feed you til you're about to burst) the accomidations are very clean and modern, and the fishing is fantastic if you are taking kids. No this is not the place you want to go to catch that "fish of a lifetime", though I believe a 52.5" was caught out there this year, and not too many people fish for Muskies too hard there, lots of people go there for their "first fish". Just a few thoughts about a great place staffed by some great people.

*this is where me and Ms. Slamr were going to go this year if the Sabaskong trip hadn't come up.

I had kids in my boat at least once per week this season until it got too cold for them.

My oldest daughter was with when I hooked into a musky on a 10 inch believer. She video-taped 3/4 of the fight and the net job, then took pitures. That was neat. Both of my kids were able to see my biggest fish of the season, that was also a neat moment. Perhaps the best was when MRoberts and myself had his 4 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter and my 7 yr old daughter out for a short trip and actually caught 2 small muskies. It took me a week to get all of the food out of my boat after that trip!!!

Then I had my nephew in town for a weekend of musky fishing and 20 minutes into the trip his Dad caught and released a 40 incher and a little later I caught a 30 incher.

I also had Scott Theide and his daughter Alyssa out for a day. We caught some pike and one small muskie. That was neat because Alyssa hadn't been in the boat for a muskie!

I love to take kids out fishing, they make you appreciate the things that we sometimes take for granted! God bless.

I didn't actually take a kid fishing but where I fish in Belgium I met lots of kids who were fishing for pike without leaders, with spinners that twisted their line, ... I taught them how to cast their lures properly, told them how to make leaders (I gave them some) and I explained to every one of them about catch&release and proper unhooking tools. The funniest part was that I had been casting for four hours without so much as a take and after I explained that 10 year old kid how to cast overhead with his spinning outfit, he caught a small pike on one of his 2" spinners. He was thrilled!! Too bad I didn't have my camera with me.

I had the pleasure of having a few father son guide trips this year. We had a blast and even caught a few fish.
There is nothing like seeing the looks on their faces (fathter & son) when they hook into their first Musky.

Take a kid fishing, it will give you memories for a lifetime!!!!!![:praise:]

I spent quite a few days of my vacation trolling with my wife and kids , My son and daughter can't cast well so we troll alot, the 9 yr old boy caught several pike , but my 7 yr old girl trolled up a legit 48 incher on a white buchertail , willow blade. She was holding the rod when the fish hit(we don't use rod holders b/c we don't troll very often) She fought the fish all the way to boatside before handing off to me to land . This big fish went totally airborn about 15 feet from the boat, what a thrill !!! That spinner is hanging on my girls bulletin board in her room ! The wife trolled up her first , a fat 42 later that day. I;ll try to pics posted sometime soon . Got to get my boy a good one next year. Sure was a memory I'll treasure forever. ManitouDan

Slamr, I just got an e-mail from fireside and I found out that that everybody pays the full fare, even my 5 year old so it's financially out of my league to go there. Really bummed out about it. I can't swing 3600 just for housekeeping.[:blackeye:]

I took my 2 year old daughter fishing and she had a blast. She caught 9 bluegills and threw them all back herself. Also prematurely released all remaining crawlers to the water. She is catch and release all the way.

My nieces and nephews every year. They tear up the outdoors and all of Gods creatures, but, I try to retrain them every year. Bless the little monsters. My son outfished me the last 4 years and when he has kids I'll have the patience of a saint! [:halo:] Any time teaching on the water is time well spent learning. [;)]

I believe that my daughter will be a big muskie crazy fisherman like us. I took her out this year at 4 years old and she would fish 5 hours at a crack with out trouble and laughed and smiled the whole time. She caught a small muskie trolling and had a blast.

This year I will teach her how to cast and hopefully get her pitching Mepps #5's. and 5" Slammers.[:)]

I can think of only a dozen times when my son was not fishing with me. He loves to cast and cast and cast. He didn't catch much this year but had a great time anyway. He even fished in cold, rain and blazing hot weather. The attached picture, courtsey of the Wisconsin State Journal was taken on Nov 10th. He just looks like a trooper. I am a proud Dad.

I take my kids out alot. Especially Lauren. At 7, she loves going with her dad. I always try to take a panfish break when I have the kids with me. She loves catching crappies and gills, with the occaisional bass or walleye. Eric put his 2 biggest in the boat this year, and next year, I am certain Lauren will get her first.

I fish, therefore my daughter fishes.
Still a little too small for skies, but she raises hell on the panfish and an occasional bass or pike.
I love it because now SHE ASKS ME TO GO!!!!

I took my 14 year old nephew out fishing on LOTWS this year. Before that, he had only gone fishing with his parents on the shores of the Red River. He had only caught tiny cats and perch with some small walleye mixed in. We went out to LOTW's with me telling him that he was really going to learn what fishing is all about with great sceanery and big fish.

We started out doing some pike and muskie fishing. We quickly caught numerous pike. My newphew caught some pike in the 4 to 8 pound range and then hooked into a 15 LBer. We lost it at the boat but was he excited. He had already caught his biggest fish ever and the excitement of seeing a real nice pike!

We then went walleye fishing. After catching many small fish up to 2lbs, I told him we were moving on to look for some bigger Walleye's. He thought I was crazy leaving when we were catching so many fish. I took the boat to a large bay and after locating and marking a reef that I had been dying to try out, we started fishing. My nephew quickly hooked into a large walleye and was screeming. We landed the fish which weighed in at 7 pounds. The spot contiuned to produce large walleye's for the next 4 hours. We must of caught 10 fish over 5 pounds and numerouse fish no smaller then 2.

My nephew still beems when ever we talk about the trip and can't wait till next year to go again. Maybe I can get him into his first Muskie!

Took about 90 of them form the local Airforce base and local area for a kids day at a local lake. Must admit it was one of the best Mn. muskie openers I have spent to date. didn,t wet a line but it was alot of fun.

Holy cow. All five of my children from my four boys and one daughter, ages 18 to 8, are all die hard fisherman.
I have them and thier friends fishing on our pontoon boat from spring to fall. Then when the weather gets cold, we are either ice fishing or steelhead fishing.
I swear, the smaller the kid, the bigger the fish![]
