| Hello members! I'm thinking about getting a new XH rod for this upcoming season. I'm looking at these two specific models. Obviously, the Legend Tournament is lighter and a much better quality rod. What I'm wondering about, is the actions of the rods. The Big Dawg is rated 4-12 oz and the Premier 8'6" XH 4-10 oz. Does that mean the Premier is a softer rod? Does anyone own/use both rods and have an indepth comparison between the actions? Is the Premier softer than the big dawg, thus loading more on the cast and while fighting fish? Any other additional feedback would be great as well!
Thanks! |

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | The big dawg has a softer tip , but tapers to a stiffer, heavier blank. It is much easier to cast than the premier. Compared to each other , the premier has much more of the "broomstick" feel. I have a big dawg and have used an xh 8'6" premier, these rods are night and day. Well worth the extra money for the legend, especially factoring in warranty. All just my opinions. |

| A vote for the Premier-
When I bought mine compared to the much more expensive Big Dawg---for my money it was clear---your opinion may vary!
Try them both and make up your mind--the price dif is significant---
If your bread and butter is big rubber --it may be worth the extra money for the BD-=-For me----I really like the Premier you mention for mag dawgs/Pounder/double dogs/ hardheads/ meduzas.
It is a stiff rod but I like that for the heavier baits---easy to cast. lighter than my premier 86 rated for 2-10 I believe---I use that rod for double tens.
For my money the Premier series is the best bang for the buck of any Musky rod--I have 6 of them and love them all.
Get them both in your hand and try to decide if the extra cash is justified... |
