Location: Rockwell City, IA | I know this has been brought up before, but the search won't work right for me.
I just sold a couple lures in the buy/sell forum.
One was from IA to Illinois, 13.7 oz., Priority mail, $5.70.
The other was IA to Ontario, 1 lb. 5 oz., First Class mail, $13.35.
The post office told me there were only faster more expensive options
for the Canada package.
My question is, does this seem pretty typical?
Has anybody tried other options, like UPS, FedEx, or anybody else?
Whether buying or selling, we all want it fast but cheap.
But I don't like waiting a long time for a purchase and
I don't want someone buying from me to wait a long time, either.
Just looking for the best and fairest option for buying & selling.

Location: Smith Creek | Postal is the way to go unless the Canadian buyer doesn't mind paying duties or brokerage fees.
Fedex and UPS will obviously be faster and more reliable. |

Location: central Wisconsin | I buy and sell on Ebay pretty regularly. I find USPS to be the cheapest, I like UPS for bigger more expensive items. Lures I ship all USPS. I do not ship out of the country, the costs and hassle is not worth it to me. |

| I've shipped small and large stuff with usps to canada and even hawaii! with costs to canada no issue as long as buyers no what to expect and is ok with it! |

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | The post office will be your cheapest option to Canada. But with the recent rate hikes, there is no "cheap" option. What you were told on Canada shipping options is correct. And unless you pay for Express shipping (expensive), you can't count on it being fast either. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. Turnaround times are extremely unpredictable with international shipping. As someone who ships out of the country on a regular basis, the unpredictable nature of delivery times is very frustrating. It'll get there. Just don't guarantee when.

| you are a captive audience at customs. we have had crates shelved for 30 days till cleared. 9-11 made things different. thru free trade the two goverments have made shippers very rich/brokerage firms also. |

Location: Kingston, Ontario | As a Canadian, USPS all the way. UPS and FedEx have automatic brokerage fees and for lures, they would exceed the value of the lure itself, probably by 2x.
Longest I've ever had to wait for shipping from US via USPS is 2.5 weeks. Shortest is 5 days. Pretty standard to take 7-10 days.
One thing you can do as Canadian is open an account with Kinex(sp?). It's a service that gives you a free US postal address at the closest border crossing and will only cost you $5 per package fee. Great service that can save a lot of money. |

| As has been said already---I sell much on ebay thru my ebay store----USPS is the best deal in SHIPPING---to canada or any internation site---AND I also believe in the STATES---BEST RATES--all priority and first class parcels now come with TRACKING---and I have shipped hundreds of packages with no problems----BUT---NO CHEAP shipping by anyone to INTERNATIONAL SITES !!! |

| I live in Canada and I will only order stuff if Shipped through USPS. They a cheaper, reliable. UPS has been nothing but a nightmare everytime I receive an item from them. I have broken items, crushed boxes, "lost item" and outragous custom fees. They once charged me $30 in customs on $6 hook. I was expecting another more expensive package so a signed and paid. That was the last time I used them. |

international shipping sure went up this year didn't it? doubled and tripled to some places.. |

| I am in the middle of a Canadian shipping mess right now. I shipped a 400 TE to a guy in Quebec. Filled out all the customs forms at UPS, it was a sale so I marked it as such. UPS tries to deliver the reel with a $90 brokerage fee. Wth, I wasnt told there would be any issues or extra fees. UPS is saying its customs. Guy didnt want to pay that understandibly. I told UPS to ship it back to me. If was $10 more to ship it back to be then there! $28 originally then $37 to ship back. Ridiculous. UPS told me to lie on customs forms next time and say its a gift to get around brokerage fees. So being honest is not the way to go. |

| For what it's worth, UPS guy told me to send things express or priority or whatever their term is, and the customs fees would be included. Never tried it, don't like them at all just for the fees. Then again, the USPS is beyond bancrupt for not charging enough. |

Location: Ontario | If the seller will mark the item as a gift with a minimum value of 5-10 dollars, you will avoid a lot if ridiculous fees when shipping to Canada. A lot of established retailers will not do this however. Also, us Canadians need to be patient. I have had items take upwards of 3 weeks. No point in harassing the seller...just makes Americans say things like "too much hassle shipping out of the lower 48" |

Location: Pickering, ON | As with Rick above, I am in Canada (and I order things from the US all the time), and I will ONLY order if shipped via USPS. I have never, ever had a problem with a USPS shipment - nothing lost, nothing damaged, never any additional fees. Items typically take 5 days - 2.5 weeks, and much of the long side of that is due to ocassional customs holding.
The brown turd (UPS) is absolutely, positively out of the question. It only took getting reamed once, many years ago, to learn that lesson.
