i bought a skeeter mx 1825 last spring i put a f 150 on it. Yamaha came out with a f 200 light or in line 4. i should get top doller trade in for my f 150.i just thik it would be better to do it know rather then latter. the new Yamaha wont be out till this summer.right know i top out at 50.8 what will another 50 hp do for me thinking i should get 7 or 8 mph. that and resale will be better with it maxed out on the hp right. thanks for any input.

I can't believe spending x amount of dollars to gain 8 mph would be worth it. Imo.

Once to get to those speeds you usually get 1 mph per 5 hp. So you might get 8 -10mph more.

It's tough to get your money's worth from a preemptive prepower. I'm all for a good repower...I did one a few years ago...when I blew up a motor. Best thing I ever did on a boat. But to repower a motor that is old just because it's old never pays off, let alone replacing one that is fine like yours.

And for top dollar, I bet you don't get what you expect for it. I'm just guessing, but for a 150, used...I'd guess $6-$7k. Just a guess. That's part of why I repowered. The motor I blew, even if I did rebuild it (200 VMAX) was only about $5-$6k running! It was more to rebuild it than it was worth intact! Used motors don't sell well unless they are gems with like 30 hrs on them. I've not priced a 200 but when I bought my F225 Sport it was like $21k on the shelf. Now, I didn't pay that, and I found a dealer that let me have one on his pro-plan. But I'm betting there'd be quite a gap between what you get for yours used, and what you pay for a new one off the shelf.

And if they're not even out yet, it may be next fall or winter before you can get one. Maybe later. They stock and supply the boat manufacturers first, and then sell to single buyers after those contracts and orders are initially filled. When I blew mine, the SHO was just around the corner and I actually thought about waiting a few months...boatless...to get the SHO. My dealer advised against that, and I'm glad I did because just because they're "out" doesn't mean a single buyer can get one.

I'd stick with what you got. You'll be out money initially and you probably won't recoup what you spent in resale. Repowers are ideal when you've got a hull you love and want to keep forever, and you blow something up. Then the "investment" pays for itself over the next many many years as you run the motor. Repowering for the sake of going faster or even because you want to save on gas and oil going from 2 to 4 stroke is cost prohibitive...unless you've got more money than I do and money isn't an issue.

Just my take on it.

do you have a kicker, if not it would much prefer to troll on 150 then a 200. How often are you going to run WOT, if all the time and dont mind pay the extra $$$ for few more minutes of fishing time go for it.

Exactly. I was wondering if someone was going to do the math on that one.

I repowered last year from a 115 to a 150, and it made a huge difference for my boat. A good used 150 is really hard to come by, cause I tried. If it's in good condition with low hours, you should get descent money for it.
