Lowrance Elite 5 DSI or Humminbird 587ci HD DI
I am curious if anyone has any experience or opinions on either of these units. I can get both of them for about $400 new, but have never had or used either the DSI or DI.

Is one (DSI or DI) way better than the other?
Is one compatible to better map chips?

I have used birds in the past but am not biased against lowrance. I just want to make sure i'm not missing something about either of these two units before I choose.
Thanks
Clint

Someone told me the Lowrance is only downscan and it doesn't have sonar. I could be wrong but this is what I have heard.

Location: Wisconsin River
The elite 5 dsi was not designed to be a primary unit and will not give high speed readings. It will work great as a secondary bow sonar.

Yes, the Elite 5 DSI does not have original sonar where as the Humminbird does. Also, the Lowrance will not accept any of the newest lakemaster chips. Having said that, I much prefer the display of the Lowrance over HBird.

If I were to get a used lake master or navionics north chip though I would fine, correct?
Also, HB has a black and white combo unit for a little less. Has anyone experienced the DI on a black and white unit?

Thanks for the help guys,

Actually no, that's what I thought at first. My buddy gave me one of his older lakemaster chips but I knew immediately it would not work. Old cards are SD, Elite uses Micro SD cards. Unless there is something available from Lakemaster that DOES work, not that I am aware of.

Lakemaster's maps are supposed to be better but Navionics has WAY more lakes so it's a horse a piece I guess.
