Hi, i plan on using 60lb seaguar fluoro as a leader. I plan on casting bass sizes lures and some a little heavier wih this outfit to pike from all sizes. I want to use fluoro that is strong enough not to get cut easily but can retrieve lures without any disfuntion. Is 60 enough or should i move to 80?

Pikes teeth are as bad as muskys, so never under 100lb and prefferable 130lb+

A thin wire leader will suit better, maybe a single strand light test titanium?

Go with the single strand knotable titanium (20-30 lb). I've had great success with that stuff recently. I join it to my main line with an albright knot and then tie a 40 lb cross-lock swivel on the end with an abbreviated clinch knot.

I use 60# flouro for Pike for ice fishing but if the lake has bigger fish in it you might want to go heavier.

60# 7-strand wire is very tough but is suprisingly plyable. Flyfisherman will sometimes go down to 40# or even 28# 7-strand for Pike.

ice = 15# fluoro, no. 10 trebles and rarely have trouble ... pike to high 30's" ... if there are low-mid 40's i'd go up but most of the bite is keeping the bait from being strained. double-edged sword.

I use 40lb fluoro on my tip ups and havent had a n issue yet. I started out with 20lb but broke off twice in one day and decided to go heavier. For 7-strand I have some 18lb that is awesome. No pike will bite through it and it is ultra -thin and is tie-able. The only issue is usually after one good fish it is damaged enough that it needs to be re-tied but its cheap so no big deal. I feel 60lb or heavier is overkill, but it would work.

60 is plenty IMO as long as you match your tackle. Sometimes I think we go overboard on the tackle we use. Smaller lures require lighter action rods, and in turn you also should pair down your line and leaders. The lighter the line/leader the more important it is to have a rod that can take out shock.

I use 60lb for pike/muskie fly fishing and have not had any issues, if your tackle is not super heavy you should be fine. BR
