Anybody done this yet? How well does it work? What happens if unit looses bottom because of heavy millfoil?

I may be wrong but I think the I pilot works off the chip and contour lines, so loosing bottom due to heavy milfoil would not be a problem. Again this is a guess and I could be wrong, but I think it runs off GPS so depth would not ever be an issue.

So if the lake I was on didn't have Lakemaster coverage this feature wouldn't work.

Of course. That's called compatibility. New technology is like that.

Cool video, thanks, Steve. Soooo....I stand corrected...one needn't be fishing a lake with lake with Lake Master countours...you can program the I pilot to connect waypoints you have put down...sooo...if you are fishing a lake that doesn't have contour lines on your Lakemaster, but you do have a series of way points saved along a break or productive area, the unit can talk with the motor to connect those. Cool. Okay, I gotta deliver a few more pizzas.

Still have the 'Record-a-Track' feature so if you fish that lake/area enough you may want to save a route. Many more options since they first came out (which is when I bought my Terrova/I-pilot)!

Will the system work with my two year old birds?

yes, as long as they are ethernet-capable versions such as an 1198 or 998. (mine are 2-years-old as well.) the new software update available on the Humminbird website will provide what you need to run iPilot Link.
