I almost have the wife talked into a LOTW trip. She likes to fish in moderate amounts. Her beef is she wants something else to do when she's bored of fishing. I told her that the scenery is plenty, but she's looking for more of an "attraction".

I have a feeling if she experienced the walleye fishing up there, she'd have a blast. Looking for quality 'lunge fishing too; of course.

We'd be staying in a housekeeping setup, no need for American Plan. In August. Bringing our own boat...

Unless you consider Kenora, Fort Francis, Sioux Narrows, Baudette or Internation fall's "Destinations" you might be pressed here. Dont get me wrong they are all fine towns but not exactly destinations people other than fishermen seek out... They all have some other things to do in some capacity but no one will confuse them with The Mall of America or Michigan Avenue...

I hear ya. She's not really the mall type either. Maybe even if there were a place within a 20min drive from camp to have a steak, wine, and a cover band for a night out?

i'm very biased but have stayed at a couple places on lake of the woods. flag island resort is a very personable, family ran resort. they have a bar, restaurant, hot tubs, provide a cooking class for singles and couples, and have a masseuse that comes to the island. one of my buddies and his girlfriend went there for a week and she had a blast.

I agree take her to an island..that way her choice is go fishing or stay in the cabin while I go fishing

I know it is not LOTW, but have you considered a stay on Eagle Lake? My wife enjoys travelling, but not 7 straight days of morning to night water pounding. we stay at AML, and she can (and does) take a day trip to Dryden - 20 or so minutes away. She tells me there are 30+ places for getting nails done, and plenty of small shops downtown to keep her interest.

I offer this as food for thought. I can't tell you the number of times I have put my bride on a great bite, and she tires of catching fish. Blows me away we can be on 4 lb smallies and she'll lay her rod down...or we have a good eye bite and she'll leave her line in the water to look like she's jigging only the bait isn't even below the boat! She said that way the fish won't bother her!! She always has a magazine with her and reads. I bought her a Kindle, loaded it up and she will read, watch the eagles, read, catch a fish, have a cup of coffee, read on & on. That was $200 well spent, I'd rather have a Revo but you know a guys got to sacrafice sometimes too.

I second Flag Island Lodge. I went there with my girlfriend last year. She is no big fisherman by any stretch of the imagination. She actually enjoyed herself and we had plenty of things to do to keep her happy. In fact she opted to go back this year, which is a huge win for me!!

Kenora is a good option. The MS Kenora does tours of the lake.... As well as the Grace Anne and Turtle Bay Lodge. Wiley Point Lodge is hooked up with the MS as well and now does day trips back and forth from Kenora. Wiley's also does nature tours, skeet shooting, water sports etc. You can rent jet ski's, kayaks in Kenora... Or go for a hovercraft ride. There's a museum and LOTW discovery center there too. There's also a good night life in Kenora during the Summer at many of the local pubs. Or hang out at the beach on Scotty Island (Amazing, very happening beach in the middle of nowhere.)

know how to read your female ... if she isn't passionate about water and/or fishing i'd steer clear of anymore than 3 days on either LOTW or Eagle otherwise it would be more of you showing her what you like than considering what she likes/wants.
