| I was telling my wife that I dreamed about muskies again last night. I had this dream where I discovered a new hot spot to fish for them; a place that no one else knew about yet. Of course, she thinks that it is ridiculous that I dream about muskies all of the time.
I have another frequent muskie dream where I catch muskies in strange places like down in the basement, in the stormwater collection area near the local shopping mall, in an old sistern near where we used to live, and out of my crayfish pond.
While I was talking about this, my son said that he has had the same stupid dreams. He has even dreamed that he caught muskies in some of the same strange places where I have dreamed that I have caught them.
Anyone else have these kind of weird dreams about muskies?? |

1. Blind Boat side strike and I jump outta my friggin skin...
2. I'm fishing while sleeping, only half asleep like I'm thinking, "I gotta hit that little pocket beside the dresser"....or, "I'm gonna drop a cast right by that doorway 'cause there's a current break right there"
Then I half-think, "Aw, cripes...wudam I doin' fishing here....there's no fish here."

Location: Chisholm, MN | A dream is one of the major reasons I started muskie fishing! After watching Bob M when I was very young...this was my first time hearing about muskies, I dreamed I was casting a jackpot (didn't know what it was at the time) out of my garage into the driveway. I hooked into a muskie and my mom freaked out and ran and hid under the workbench in my garage. Been obsessed ever since. I bet I was maybe 7 years old. Didn't actually start fishing for them until I was maybe 11 or 12 though. I also dreamed the other night that I lost all my figure 8 skills and woke up in a cold sweat!

| Samantha thinks I'm nuts. Thank God I'm not the only one...
Had them as long as I can remember. A popular one is the neighbors yard behind my house. I can actually see the fish swimming around beneath the willow tree (they cut it down about ten years ago), and see fish breaking the surface here and there across the yard. (In the dream it makes perfect sense that it's all under water) Another is the sides of our yard where the lot dips down. Those areas are about 3 feet deep in all the dreams, with current flowing down towards the street and muskies heading upstream. The street is a river, with some very nice fish close to the curb. Also the back yard. The back yard is rarely more than a few feet deep, but it's always flat calm, and there's always a good topwater bite. The front yard is where it gets strange... In my dreams it still has grass, trees, bushes, and a driveway, but there are places under the bushes and here and there close to the driveway where there are deep holes and nice thick coontail. Those are my panfish spots! Fished from the roof a time or two. Also had a dream where there were muskies down in the basement, and one where they were upstairs in the living room hiding under the furniture.
I have quite a few dreams where I am trying to fish and can't because of broken reels, or rods, or forgetting all my lures, boats sinking, motors that won't start, backlashes I can't get out... Even had one where I fell out of the boat on a cast.

Location: Ohio | One time I was napping on the couch and set the hook so hard in my sleep in woke me up. The fish hit my lucky 8in jake. My wife had a good laugh at that one. This isn't musky but for 2 months a few years back I did nothing but fish for flathead catfish. I would hear the clicker in my sleep and jump up with my heart pounding. |

| I've had dreams when I was younger about being attacked by them, pulled in while fighting them and holding on for the ride of my life...coolest feeling ever, whatever it was! Still haunted by some of the big ones over the years too, thankfully my girl gets it! |

| I only dream about them when I am in Canada strange enough. I have had a few rare occurrences when I haven't been fishin' for them but mostly it's when I'm consumed with them and wake up, spend the day, and go to bed thinking about 'em. Never anything strange like lakes in the backyard, streets as rivers, or casting at dressers though; just regular old fishing. And when I wake up I can never figure out if I caught them or not. I don't think i ever set the hook on one, but who knows. Jeff has clocked me while setting the hook though! Thankfully I know what it's from and don't wonder what the hell happened in the middle of the night. lol "Oh God, he's fishing again. Hmpf. I wonder if he caught that one..." |

Still haunted by some of the big ones over the years too, thankfully my girl gets it! Yeah, I replay the ones I have lost too and keep swearing that if (when really) it happens again I'm going to jump in after it and wrestle it to the boat. Then I think about if she would drag me under or how cut up I would be or if I could even hang onto her. Then I think that it's probably wise to not take that tactic, but I can't stop thinking that one day I just might go in after it. Mind you this is all while I am awake and going about my day. |

Location: SE Wisconsin | LOL, after fishing four days/night straight with very little sleep, I returned home and woke myself up setting the hook. My wife nearly fell out of the bed I frightened her so bad. There I was, sitting straight up out of a deep sleep with both fists stacked on top of one another as if I were holding the rod... |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I too dream about my catches... or well, catches that could have been.
I have had two vivid dreams about muskies (had way more than two dreams bout ski's but these two stand out). First I am on one of my favorite lakes with a buddy of mine and this fish in the 50" range comes behind the bait so I start the eight. I swear it feel like I am doing the eight for a lifetime. I remember counting in my dream and had done 23 figure 8s and the fish was still there. finally after going around and around for what seems like forever, heart pounding, sweating, the fish smashes the line, jumps way into the air and the second she lands on the waters surface, I wake up. Really? I couldn't at least get to the victory picture, then wake up... man.
2nd. I have a recurring dream about fishing a river somewhere. It seems as if the River is down south just based on scenery, but honestly i have no idea. I always catch the same fish, but in different locations. The fish has a large scare on its back that kinda looks like the letters "Y" and "O" so it says YO.... It is not a huge fish by any means, maybe mid 40s somewhere. But it is always the same boat (one I have never seen or used before) and it is always the same fish (different spots and different lures) I can safely say I have had this dream 10 times up till now that I can remember.
I wonder if there is a fish down south somewhere that has never been caught and is waiting for the freak chance for me to come and put so metal through its face. either way I think it is kinda strange. |

| Okay this is by very best fishing dream. I was with a couple of old friends on a remote lake in Ontario. The weather was perfect. No pressure. I was out in a boat by myself--my friends were out together in another part of the lake. I'm taking a break in a cove; catching a smoke and drinking a cup of j. Out of the woods and down to the shoreline walks a woman in a bathing suit. I recognize her from afar. It's Miss Canada. She slips into the water and breast strokes out to my little boat. "Hi," she says. "I came up to the lake alone; and I'm lonely; and I was wondering--if you're not married--whether you'd like to share my cabin for the next five days." "Cool," I say. "I'm not married; and I'd love to." She climbs into the boat; and I head to her lakeside cabin. What a lady! What a five days! |

| What a fun thread. I've had many, including the hook sets in bed, but here's my favorite from the late 1970s.
Prior to the dream:
I was living about 70 miles from Pomme de Terre. I was totally obsessed with catching muskies but hadn't had much success yet. I awoke about 1am feeling very lucky. I hooked up the boat and went straight to Pomme. I fished from about 3-5am with no luck, so decided I better take a short nap in the boat prior to sunrise.
I beached the boat in a calm cove. Went right to sleep. Had a vivid dream of a Muskie hitting a yellow bucktail on a nearby point I had never cast before; it was so vivid it startled me and woke me up.
After the dream - true story:
I put on a yellow bucktail and motored over to the point. On the first cast about a 40-incher blasted the bucktail and missed! Since then I have caught several muskies casting and trolling "Dream Point" - I have also caught my two largest bass there, 23.5 and 24 inches. Both were caught on Muskie baits
I'm now thinking of running an article in MUSKIE about Muskie dreams. If you have one you want me to consider please send me a PM or email (even if it is one of the ones above). Thanks!

My wife would rather having me dreaming about muskies because those hooksets are violent enough that I usually wake-up. Bluegill time of the year she hates. Corks going under the water all night long have cost me a fancy mattress that keeps her side of the bed from feeling like the boat. |

| So, I'm fishing one day and catch a rather smallish, poorly marked and barely legal fish. As I am preparing to release her, the fish says, "Wait a minute, please don't put me back--oh please Mister, don't put me back...I'll make it worth your while." So, I start to listen and the fish spews out this tale about how she wasn't always a fish, she was a girl who was cursed by a witch into being a musky. She says that she's scared to death to go back in the lake and that if I put her in my live-well, she will lead me to the best spots on the water and that I will have a five fish day. So, I figure, what the heck and toss her in the box. Well, two hours later, I had caught five fish, two over 50 and she says that if I keep her, she can do it day after day. Now, a week goes by and, honestly, cathching fifites is getting to be like nothing. Then, she says, "How'd you like to catch the world record?" Well, sure I had doubts, but I listened. She said, I'm so sick of all this water...I just want one night in a really nice hotel and if you do it for me, I'll put you on a 70 pounder." So, there I was at the hotel when the fish says that the only way to end the curse and let her go back to being a young girl was to kiss full on the mouth. So, I kissed her, she instantly became this gorgeous Seventeen year old girl.....AND I SWEAR YOUR HONOR....That's how she ended up in my room! |

Location: Alexandria, MN | Our family has had a cabin on the Lawrence/Roosevelt chain (no Muskies) for many, many years. I grew up there, chasing bass, pike, and walleyes. Since I started Muskie fishing in about 1992, I have had re-occurring dreams of catching or even having follows from Muskies in our lakes. Often, I would wake up thinking "good - they ARE in there", only to realize that it was only a dream and I was probably late for work. Then a few years ago, I saw on the DNR's website that Roosevelt was on the short list of potential lakes to be stocked, and a couple years ago, they started putting 'em in there. Fall of 2011, I caught and released a 23" ski while bass fishing. I had to pinch myself to see if I would wake up late for work again.......not this time. I have caught quite a few big Muskies from other lakes - including a few over 50", but I doubt any of 'em were as sweet as seeing that little 23 incher on the end of my line. I guess dreams CAN come true. Can't wait 'til they grow !

Location: Seymour, WI | We had a small creek in our back yard when I was a kid that used to flood during spring melt down each yr. I used to get pretty excited when that would happen and then have dreams about fishing in the back yard.
In my muskie fishing dreams i'm usually fishing on a small clear lake that is full of giant muskies that I can see from the boat. All I have to do is toss out a bait and set the hook! Pretty far from the reality that is my muskie fishing.

Location: Hayward, WI | I've had a few. One a couple years back I was dreaming I was having an awesome day. I think I had only fished for about 2 hours and had 3 between 47 and 50 some inches. I woke up and when I realized it was a dream was kind of bummed...
So far I've set the hook twice that I know of. It's always when I'm drifting off to sleep, and I set the hook HARD when I'm sleeping.
Years ago we had a great weekend slip bobbering walleyes. When I closed my eyes at night I could see bobbers bobbing in the waves...

| I have dreams about muskies at least a couple times a week. Usually its me fishing on a local lake and getting a arm jarring strike. Two that really stick out are some like some others describe. One was me casting in my living room when it somehow magically flooded, next to the fireplace was a thick weedbed, the other one was of me casting out of my garage and into a street, also flooded. I didn't catch anything, but it sure was memorable! |

| Had a dream the other night I caught a 600 pound salt water black grouper out of the fresh water Manitowish Chain. Although I have traveled to the Mani every year since I was a boy and it is a special place to me, I have never fished for grouper per se and have no idea why that was the species of choice for my sub-conscious.

| I don't usually dream about fishin' when I haven't been out, but last night I had a doozy. I was at a combination of Disney World and my local zoo. There was water in the streets (was it is always in the street?), but people were still walking around with no problem. I was with Jeff, my brother, and my little nephew. I was fishing and reeled in a big, pink spoonbill. A bird?! I unhooked it and threw it back. Okay, that was weird enough, but it got stranger. My nephew had a cute kids combo with a worm on the end. So I took it from him to show him how/where to cast, the worm hit the water and something big hit it immediately. The rod bent over, I got super excited, reeled it in and I #*#* you not - it was a platypus. Yeah, a platypus. But it was big and fat and had the body shape and coloring of a Malayan tapir, but still a platypus. So we hung on to it the rest of the day and he was quite content being carried around. Yeah, I went fishing in the streets of an amusement park and caught a tapir colored platypus who then became my pet. What did I eat last night?! |
