I was hoping for some help. I'm wanting to take the family (wife, girls age 5 and 11) to the minocqua area next August. Can anyone give me some suggestions for a family friendly resort in this area with the following:
-good panfishing
-decent cabins/amenities
-swimming pool
-shopping/restaurants close by.
Thanks!

Beacons, The Point, Nitchke's ... all walking distance to town, all on the chain with everything you describe.

Fibbers in St. Germaine if fantastic and run by the best fishing connection in the Northwoods with motel rooms and cabin options but not close to Minocqua and about 3-4 miles from the town of St. Germaine ... another great vacation choice tho!

White Birch Village near Boulder Junction is geared for families, with all the amenities you're looking for. Very short drive to Boulder and Minocqua but with very expansive grounds connected to state public land so it feels like a wilderness. They are on action lakes for muskie with good panfishing. There's usually a waiting list so you've got to contact them early.

Thanks for the help guys. Keep them coming
Please feel free to add some others that are in a 10 mi range of Minocqua that are great family resorts, but perhaps don't have the swimming pool but still have nice amenties ie. canoes, rafts, paddleboats etc... .I know having a pool onsite really cuts down on alot of quality resorts. I saw that there was a waterpark, so maybe a day there can substitute for the pool at a camp. Hopefully it will be warm, so the lake can be the girls swimming pool

Check out Booth Lake Landing..... It's a little out of the way, approx 10mi west, but overall a quiet lake, good "kid lake", with rowboats and paddleboats available. It's a very family and kid-friendly resort.

Another is Patricia Lake Campground which is 2 miles outside of town, though they are more tent and RV oriented.

This is where we have stayed for the last 10 to 12 years. Pets are allowed as well as children. Right on the Minocqua chain. Nothing fancy, if you go try for the wolves den that is the newest and largest cabin, perfect size for a family of four. We walk into town from the cabin. Docks for the boats, swimming beach, raft, canoes, etc.

My inlaws have a resort on the Lac Du Flambeau chain. It's on Little Crawling Stone lake, has a very nice sand beach/swimming area. Great smallie, walleye, etc fishing (very big muskies, but they can be tough, but worth it in the end). Only about 10 miles west of Minocqua. It's also very close to a lot of other good musky lakes if you want to lake hop. And, if your lucky I may be up there at the same time and can take you out for some ski's after family time is done. Here's a link to their website

Let me know when you find out what dates you'll be up there (even if you're not at that resort), may be able to get out with you.

Lots of water to fish on that chain, not a lot of pressure (pleasure boats or fishing), and you can always catch bass and walleye (and panfish) for the kids, and if you like chasing huge fish (and getting humbled at times), it's a great chain for muskies. Their beach is very nice for swimming, tubing, skiing, etc, and they have docks in a bay for your boat if you have one to keep them out of the waves and winds with dockside electric, and a brand new fish cleaning house (was up there when they built it last year).

I have 2 girls as well (5 and 6) and they love swimming and catch bass and pannies off the pier in the front of the resort all day long.

I'll second the LDF chain like joel has stated! awesome lakes to fish and pleasure on. big sandbar on the south end of big crawlingstone is a great spot to get out and swim, throw frisbee etc on a nice sunny warm day. biiiggg skis in that chain. never caught one but i have seen them. joel can steer you in the right direction all around.

Flambeau is 15 minutes from minocqua! Blacks cliff resort is in hazlehurst which is 6 miles south. It's on lower kaubashine lake. It's a semi private lake with tons of fish! Awesome cabins and beach with very little boat traffic. Very clean water. Look it up.
