| Hi guys.
I'm getting an Avet MXJ 5.8 MC for a high speed bucktail reel.
I'm putting it on a Tackle Industries MH rod, will the standard reel foot fit the standard reel seat on the rod?
Anyone got something else thats good to know or interesting about the Avet? |

| I used a 3/6 JX last summer. Get the MC for sure. Get a narrow spool model. There is tons of info on Avets at alantani.com, bloody decks, and stripers online.
I really liked it but learned this the hard way: the lever drag is marked "strike" at about the 2/3 way to "full" -- don't turn the reel handle with the lever set past "strike." This will destroy the pinion bearing. I learned about this reading posts at alantani after I did it. Avet sent new bearing fast and it was easy to replace, but you can avoid by simply not pushing the lever past "strike" (unless of course you've got a muskie on that's acting like a tuna and peeling off line on a 100 yard run and you need to turn it before it spools you LOL). |

| Also how palmabe is the JX, i have small hands. If i don't fill upp the spool fully then i won't even get the 38" per crank out of the MX and then it seems like a waste... |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | The Avet are strong reels, both the Main and Pinion gears are Stainless Steel so the gears are very loud and not very smooth but are very strong. I know that everone that I have worked on the pinion bearing had to be replaced because they where very loud.

| The JX is about the size of a abu 7000. I found I could cast it pretty close to full spool.
About the reel design/drag/pinion bearing -- I'm just passing on what I learned about how it works. Why it works that way I don't know. If I guessed, I figure the idea is that when a big fish (100 # tuna) is running in the wide open sea you don't keep reeling, but bear down on the drag to slow it, then back off on the drag and reel in again. I don't know. The reel is not designed for fighting muskie, that's for sure. But it works for the big blades. |

| I might be mis-naming as "pinion bearing" -- I'm pretty sure that was it, but this was last July. Tani refers to it as the "right main side plate bearing" -- but my reel is a lefty so when I went back and had a glance at the schematic I can't remember exactly what I found when I opened her up. Simple inside though, easier than an Abu even. Here's a link to the post I mentioned.
I may also be mis-interpreting what Tani meant about "exceeding a certain load" -- I assumed it meant exceeding an amount of drag. At any rate, after I stopped cranking with the drag pushed past "strike" I did not have problems.
