Hey guys, new member here from Minnesota. I have been out of the muskie game for a while and haven't looked at new tackle for a few years. I made it out to lake of the woods once last season and suddenly found my old rods and reels weren't up to the task. Now there is so much new stuff on the market I don't even know where to begin looking! I see the trend in rods is a lot longer too. There definitely weren't many rods over 8' last time I was buying!

With that said, what recommendations would you guys have for rod, reel, line set-ups if you were to have only 2 (maybe 3) muskie rods?

I don't know what your budget is, but last year I picked up a st croix top n tail and I love it. I find myself using it over my other rods because of its feel and versatility. Found mine used for $150

1. Big Nasty & Revo Toro NaCl 60 5.4:1 or 400D for blades and plastics
2. Slingblade & Revo Toro Winch 60 4.6:1 for 10's/13's
3. Lipstick & Revo Toro 60 HS for gliders and small baits

These are what I would buy if I had to start all over again. There are other nice rods out there, but St. Croix makes the best in my opinion. My Revo's have been flawless and have been fished hard. I also have Thorne Bro's extend the handles on all my rods so that the butt section can be held between my arm and ribs more easily. This also makes casting heavy baits easier because of the longer lever arm. I like the rear grips at 18-19"

definitely 1 bigger bait rod and then 1 "quicker" rod can get you away with a wide variety of baits.

An XH rod like a big dawg paired with a calcutta for toro as mentioned above would be dual use for blades/rubber/bigger baits and a MH/H rod paired with a faster reel like a curado, toro HS, daiwa lexa, etc would be a great glider/jerk rod.

Tons of options out there to choose from but as mentioned above its all about your budget and personal preferance

Thanks for the recommendations guys! I'm less concerned with budget than I am quality. I'd rather have 2 really high quality set-ups than 4 or 5 so-so rods/reels.

If budgets no concern I'd get st croix ltm top n tail with a revo toro hs and the ltm big nasty with a tranx or a revo toro 5.4. I use my top n tail 80 peercent of the time I also have the long ranger but prefer the top n tail for most baits. What the top n tail cant handle the big nasty will.
