I bought a 1994 692 ranger with a 175 efi Mariner and a 8 hp 4 stroke yamaha kicker this summer The 175 hp Mariner has only 130 hours on it. This Ranger model has trim tabs on it which are new to me and I'm not quite comfortable with yet.
My concern other than the trim tabs is fuel comsumption. I fish Lake Of the woods once a year and put on 30 miles a day or less.
The boat is in great shape other than the fuel consumption, am I better off selling the boat and buying a newer model without the trim tabs and a more efficent motor or stick with what i have and pay the extra fuel costs once a year. Thanks

If you buy a newer boat your gonna have a boat payment if you don't now. It will probly cost you more for the newer boat. How much extra is that one trip a year really costing you on fuel? Enough to justify buying a new boat?

Seems like a pretty easy answer if you are just talking about cost.

Sounds like you really wish you had a different boat (no matter the cost). If you can't get comfortable with your boat, you won't be happy until you buy a different one. Good luck on your decision.

the boat isn't using the fuel, the motor is. you have the most desirable hull on the market, consider re-powering it. i put a pro-xs on my 690 and wouldn't trade it for any new boat on the market. the cost of a re-power is more than half a new boat and you'll have one everyone wants, including you.

I agree, I repowered my boat this year at a cost of $5000 after selling my 115 Yami that came with the boat. The new F150 Yami is the cats ace, I love it. I've never understood why somone would underpower a boat just to save a few bucks.
