| I left Detroit for a week long family vacation down to Captiva Island, Florida and squeezed in a day fishing for 140-180# Tarpon in the middle of Everglades. It was Ana amazing trip and any Muskie angler would absolutely love this style of fishing!! We drove deep into the glades and Jon immediately located schools of Tarpon rolling in several bays. I grabbed my St. Croix Legend Rod, Calcutta TE, 80# braid, 80# fluorocarbon leader and 8" Big Game Balsa Crank and started slinging...the hooks and spilt rings were beefed up and we would sneak up into a bay of 5-6 feet or shallower. I hooked 3 Tarpon all 140-170# and keep them for some amazing jumps and eventually they spit the hooks leaping 5 feet in air. Jon also hooked 3 that spit bait after several jumps. One took the back treble and split ring with him. We had another 10-12 Tarpon strike, thump or follow our baits and maybe seen another 20-40 Tarpon right in the shallows, roll or almost hit them with trolling motor. They were huge!!! All of them. I've learned fast you lose a lot more than you catch and at least I got to feel the power, strike and fighting for a bit rather than not seeing anything.. Jon is an amazing guide! He's a Muskie guy for MN and been guiding for Tarpon, Snook, Redfish and anything else for 20 years. He knows where the fish are at and a fantastic angler! Any Muskie guy heading down to SW Florida needs to book a trip with Jon. If the Tarpon are in the Glades Jon will put you on them! I literally have a bruise on my ribcage from the first of 3 Tarpon striking so violently and jolting my body so bad. It's shocking how many monster Tarpon are so far back in Glades! Best part....we didn't see another boat fishing. We didn't see any boat out there!! Zero pressure!! We had the glades and Tarpon all to ourselves! On a side note... Don't think you can do this on your own! You can't! Jon's been doing this for 20 years and we went 30 miles deep into glades and anyone would get seriously lost! Zero cell reception, zero help and everything looks the same! The little canals, bays and long boat ride puts it all into perspective that you need Jon Sebold to guide you. What an experience and although we lost all 6 Tarpon at least I could say I fought 180# Tarpon on Muskie Gear for a bit and saw amazing jumps, strength and power..Muskies make me laugh now and are kinda "cute" compared to these Giants in 5 feet of water or less!

Captain Jon Sebold will get you all set up. A true sportsman, amazing angler and heck of a lot of fun to fish with! His absolute #1 priority is putting you on fish and feel free to pick his brain about all Muskies, Tarpon or anything else that swims. He's a wealth of knowledge and great guy! I'm actually a better angler after learning a few things from him. It's also so cool to see him get excited when the client or customer hooks a fish! His passion for angling is inspiring! Shoot him an email...you won't regret it!! |

Very enticing post. I have family in Sarasota and Ft. Meyers and never knew that those Tarpons were not that far away. Nice informative post I may have to follow up on.
Thanks,

| Yeah... It's amazing when those big Tarpon are in the Glades. Little pressure and they smack crankbaits...
Best times to chase them in Glades is: Oct, Nov, Dec, Followed by late Feb and March. I think by April water becomes too warm and they transition back out to Saltwater. Hit up Captain Jon at Chicago this year or shoot him an email. Awesome guy! |

| I did this trip and it was the never to be forgot.....attached are a few short videos of a 150lb 6ft tarpon that ate a phantom 15 ft from the boat 30 minutes of sweat.
I would like get a group to do this next year to keep cost down and get more people to have the ability to make this adventure possible
send me a PM and i will start a distribution list |
