There is a new 401F reel from Japan listed on ebay. It appears to be the same body as the 401D but comes with a power handle and the drag star is located inside of the handle like a typical reel. Other than that, is this basically the same reel?

Although the 401D handle set up should really help reduce side torque on the handle.

Pikemaster, any info on the 401F and how it compares to the D?

The F is a Jigging reel it has no SVS Spool Brakes, good luck casting it into the wind.

Thanks for the info.

Also, the EXO sure sounds great. Do you honestly think it will compete with the Calcutta D? It is a bit cheaper but I don't want to be a guineau pig. Reviews of the Lexa were somewhat disappointing...

Have there been any negative issues with the D yet as far as part wear or noises that you know of?

Thanks in advance.

I have had a 300 and 200 EXO for a month and I like them alot. The 300 weighs only 7.5oz and the 200 6.8oz, the 300 hold 200yds of 20lb mono and the 200 holds 175yds of 14lb mono. Both have a 22lbs of drag. I got both of mine in 5.3:1, gears and will use them for topwater and smaller crank and rip baits. The Toro Reels are still the best H.D low profile reel and the Curado a close 2nd in my book.
The Calcutta D reels are in a league of there own, my 300 D is one of the smoothest reels I own. I have been tuning the D reel by adding bearings and polishing some internals and the Calcutta D reels are the smoothest reels I have ever used.

Could You please share more info on tuning Calcutta ?
Can you replace level-wing guide with metal one instead of that black plastic arm?
What are other upgrades You do, can you post pictures?

Cheers,
