I'm building my first musky bait and was wondering if I should clear coat after painting? If so should I do several coats in 15-20 min intervals like I usually do painting. The reason I was thinking of possibly not using clear coat is that in the past with a couple of my bass lures that I've made the clear coat has really dulled the color giving it an almost milky color.

Depends on the type of clear coat you use. Have never had clear coat dull my finish. In fact it brings out the clarity of the blending colors. It also "seals" the paint You need a clear that is compatible with your paint if you are having trouble.

I've been using enamel paint and enamel clear coat. I think the dulling of the color only happened once or twice. I havent made any lures in several years but decieded to get back into it somewhat.

whichever way you go the baits gotta be sealed before painting. all the other questions are a moot point if thats not done.
