Location: Almond, WI | I got one this year for the same reason--fishing alone and in the cold. I have been in a flipped canoe duck hunting before, and I will tell you that until you've felt water that cold around you, you do not understand how quick your body reacts--air goes right from your lungs and muscles tighten instantly. I was scared, and only in 2 feet of water...glad you got out quick and safe. |

Location: eagle river,wis | if that happens get to the outboard and stand on the cavitation plate and hit the trim button.It will lift you out of the water to horizontal and you can slide into the boat.I know it works.

Location: Sw Pennsylvania | Made a cast and the rod slipped out of my hands. I leaned down and tried to grab it, it was only inches from reach but i managed to reach just a little too far and went in head first. I grabbed the rod and swam to the drivers side of the boat and put the rod back in the boat, then swam to the back and got back in the boat by standing on the cavitation plate. All told it was under a minute but definitely not something i want to do again. |

| Glad you got back in. I started wearing one all the time this fall. I fish alone most of the time this time of year so I'd be out of luck if I injured myself or got separated from the boat some how. Thankfully the only time in my life I went out of the boat unintended the water was 80degs. |

Location: Wakefield, MI | I almost went in this summer, reaching down to flip the lever so I could lift the outboard pulling up to shore (no power trim) and a wave caught the boat at the wrong time and threw me off balance, I was able to grab the seat post and keep myself from going in but it was close. Scared the crap out of me because I think of how often I do that in the fall and don't even think about it. Want to get a couple of those for sure. |

Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | Almost went into Michigan one day fishing for salmon. Bent down to ge the fish out of the net and the boat took a broadside wave. I went flying into the side of the boat and almost flipped out just catching myself on rod holder. Put on the old life jacket after that.....

Location: midwest | I have been wearing the IDI Gear ArticArmor suit (same as muskie 24/7) during the winter Ice fishing and if it is cold enough during the late open water season. The suit is incredibly warm and infact too warm if you are active in above freezing temps! It is nice having the flotation insurance that the suit offers. It does not protect against hypothermia like a survival flotation suite does but it will keep you floating if you should happen to go in. |

Location: Elgin, IL | I've had SOSpenders for awhile now...don't even know I have it on. I have a Mustang for my boat guests, not as nice of a fit, and a scratchy collar. OK for winter use with a coat on first.
But I would look into the Cabela's top of the line models too, they look like they are made well. Don't scrimp on quality....you really want to be sure it "goes off" when you need it to. (For a few bucks more.) |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | You can make a fairly decent ladder using either sections of garden hose or even PVC pipe. Just make sure you make it long enough so that when you are in the drink you can get a foot into the bottom rung. Most of the ones I have seen are no where's long enough. I hook mine to the back cleat and leave it on the deck. I just have to grab it. The other suggestion I have is to have a bag in your vehicle with a towel or two and a complete change of clothes. I can tell you this has saved a few days on the water for me over the years. But no matter how far that boat ride back to the ramp is a bugger! |

This is worth repeating - I keep a complete change of clothes in my truck, an extra pair of boots, a fleece, wind shirt, an extra hat, and a set of cheap rain gear. I've never gone overboard, but I've had to use just about every article of clothing at one time or another. Dry socks and boots have saved the day more than once. |

| It amazes me how many fishermen do not wear a PFD at all. I hope some of the TV personalities will start promoting and wearing a PDF on their shows. Maybe this will prompt more people to wear theirs. |

LMAO! That's awesome. I remember going snorkling down in Key West a few winters ago. They wanted us to rent wet suits for that time of year. I asked them how warm the water was and they said around 70 degrees. I laughed and said that's like going swimming in Wisconsin in a lake in July. The wives got them and my buddy and I passed. The water didn't feel cold at all.

| Bought one suit for my wife and one suit for myself, VERY lite and warm ! have not tried out the bouyancy of the suit yet. Went in cold water on a rescue for work last year in shallow water up to chest and hope I never have to go in water that cold again...made a cold shower feel warm. The air temp. didn't help either...not fun at all. I have alot more respect for cold water and cold temps. |

Thanks for this Very Helpful idea! I will be working on one of these this weekend! I fish the PA Rivers 12 months a year and the odds are probably getting good that sooner or later its going to happen! I'm not getting any younger so climbing in the boat after an ice bath would probably be tough! Thanks again Jake!
