| Just read this on another board....
"Just heard an "unofficial report" of a new Canadian record being caught. Anyone have any news?" |
| I heard 65 pounds and caught trolling. No other details yet. Still waiting! |

| I believe an announcement will be made re: this fish a few days before the Chicago Musky Show... |

| Over the past few years, they are getting much looser with information out east. In the past these fish went under the radar. Always fun to see the pics. |

I was told this fish was harvested, not released. |

We could debate the timing of the migrating glut of boats from St. Clair to St. Lawrence...

| Apparently is not as big as stated, typical guy that's never seen a true 50 lbs that thinks its a world record. |

| There was a 57 3/4 x 25 3/4 caught several weeks ago by a guest on Cpt Dave Curtis boat , a 54 x huge , by Ace Brunner and another 54 1/2 x 29 1/2 ? on a fellow from Windsors boat , The rumour of the new record started a few days ago , still haven't seen any pic's , maybe they are waiting till the season is closed before they share, so someone won't catch one a 1/4 in bigger LOL |

| Anybody have any real info yet? Seems like a lot of hints and assumptions but nothing factual. If it is real then why the secrecy? In the era we live in today pictures and the real story of a fish like this gets out within hours, even minutes sometimes. The more this drags on with no actual info the more skeptical I become. |
| I think a few fish of thise size are taken each year out east and released. It is a different culture and catches tend to stay on the down low. BR |
| It's naive to believe that every big fish makes it, or should make it, to the internet. Ben's right - the muskie culture is entirely different in eastern Canada then the American muskie culture. |

Location: Sawyer County, WI | Did Ben say "eastern Canada" or "out east" ?
To think that Canadiens don't report large fish but Americans do is equally naive.

| I see how it could be interpreted that way. Clearly not every big fish will make it to the boards/internet. I take issue with the fact that people *expect* it to be made to the boards. Probably shouldn't involve countries in the discussion, because at the core is the expectation that if someone catches a big fish it should make it to the internet and when one doesn't people get their undies in a bundle because they can't see a picture.
Personally, I'd love to see a photo of a 65lber. Who doesn't? But if the angler chooses to not post it, I'm OK with that and won't think anything of it. It all adds to the mystique... maybe they really do get that big! |

| The only reason I "expect" it to be on the internet is because of the people on here teasing about it and talking about this fish, and because of the person who started this thread. Never did I think so many people would get bent out of shape about me asking where any real details were, I guess I should have expected it on here, my bad. And also, I have a cousin who fishes the St. Lawrence religiously and never posts about anything they catch so I have an idea of the "culture" out east. All I'm saying is it is really odd (and pointless) to leak tiny bits of info about a potential record fish, put it on various sites, then not actually give any real info. I also completely agree and like that people don't post every big fish they catch. I personally won't post any myself and respect others right to do the same. Calm down guys. |

I agree with what you wrote below 100%.
If the angler doesn't want anybody to know they'll have to do a better job of buttoning up the information next time. Then again as my dear old Dad used to say, "Two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead".

Location: Ontario | If theres been a new record caught, and the fish was harvested...The Angler could be making preperations with magazines and such to cash in. You never know. Its like that lottery winner who goes right to the lawyer and hides til things are worked out. |

| Then there are the ones that arent released, only to realize when they get to a certified scale that their 57 incher weighs 40 lbs
Lot of talk here of guys claiming to see pics of some giants? Where are they? My guess is the typical late fall Musky blindness where anglers briefly cant properly read a tape measure. Prove me wrong! |
| It's hard to pound your chest keep up the elitist attitude that apparently comes with this sport when you don't have something to hold over everyone else.
That fish isn't as big as you say it is.....
You're holding that fish wrong....
I say fish can't possibly get that big....
How dare you fish with the warm weather....
Can you believe the crowds on this lake after I bragged about the fishing...
I know about this fish out east that you don't.....
It's all part of the game..... |

Out east they don't care what you think, it is the beauty of fishing out there. BR |
| And then there are the ones foolish enough to believe everything they read on the internet, and every claimed size in a picture.
These rumours happen every single year, and more often than not turn out to be false.
No one said these rumours werent true, just something that happens every year.
PART OF THE GAME |
| They would prefer the rumors being seen as false. I think the internet leaks information that they have been able to keep quite in previous years. The goal is for no information to come out about catches. The more it is perceived as false the better. BR |
