| Has anyone ever seen a boat seat that can adjust from a regular chair height up to a casting height? I have myopathy in my legs from taking a statin cholesterol medicine and found out recently its permanent damage. I like to sight fish but can't stand for any length of time, and the casting height/butt seats don't work very well either for me.
Just wondering if there is anything like this on the market? An adjustable boat seat that fits into a pedestal would be best but if that doesn't exist, maybe some other kind of chair that I can modify.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

I would think you could get by with some of the adjustable pedestals that are not for leaning post heights. I have one that adjusts from 13-1/2" up to about 20" which is not quite leaning height. They are air adjustable...mine is a springfield from cabela's and they run for upwards of $100 new I believe.

| If you raise the chair up high enough that your feet are off the floor is there any kind of a foot rest so you're not just "dangling." |

I actually prefer "dangling", especially when it's hot and humid
Seriously, to answer your question on the availability of that type of adjustable pneumatic pedestal... there are simply none available that I know of.
I think your best bet would be to modify one of common models to accommodate your exact height. The only thing I can think of is to determine the highest comfortable sitting position for yourself and then extend the bottom of the seated model to that height when completely lowered (about any welding shop). Or, you might be able to cut down one of the standing models? Years ago I remember cutting down one of the short models that I used at the helm... 15 mins with a hacksaw.
To complete the modification... I'd give some thought to making a custom chair back that folds over flat onto the seat, but is designed to sit/lean on then... would probably have to be extra thick.
The only problem I can foresee with this type of set-up is if the chair back gets too thick, it could impede your vision when the boat is under power.
Hope this helps... Good luck!

| Another poster sent me a catalogue that appears to have a seat that can adjust in height and that also has a flip up foot pedestal (link below). I had no idea something like this exists and appreciate the combined knowledge and suggestions of people on these fishing sites. Thanks for all the input, hope to be back on the water next year either in a new boat, or by using this seat pedestal arrangement in the old one.
