Hiya Steve and Tom. (mike, too, but I don't know you[;)] )

My wife is trying to make travel plans for June, so I need to reserve our fishing weekend soon. Did you guys have a chance to consider when you want to come up? Either of the first two weekends should be good. Thanks.

RANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is up my hommie??? hangin and bangin here in Indy. we actually got some snow!!! lakes are froze too!
i'm looking at my calendar right now, do you consider the first two weekend in June to be 6,7th and 8th and then the 13, 14,15th? just wanting to be on the same page...June 1 is on a sunday...so just wondering.
Well, june was good month for me last year here in Indiana, half of my fish were over 40"...that's good for a schwizzer like me.
So, what are thinking? us drive up on thursday night again, fish Friday, Sat, Sunday...monday? let me know. i'd also like to stray away from "Walleye Sean" ha he he .
i know you are trying to plan for your wife, so i'm cool w/ getting this hammered out too. Let me know what's up. maybe check out some different lodging, but i really liked haveing my boat on the Menomanee R and taking it where ever. staying next to the state trooper was weird and the lady at the place added about $100 to my final bill, which i fine, that's why i work.
steve, mike, bob, head, toenail, whoever...any other thoughts. i still can't believe when walleye sean took me out musky fishing, we trolled 3 inch rapalas!!! JONSER for sure. wackin' and packin'.
toenail, i mean tomcat, the other bobcat.

I'm fine with any dates in June. Just let me know Ranger when you think would be a good time to come up. Let's get this in stone so that it's on my calendar for good. Give me specific dates that you want to fish.

Also, I like the cabins on the river too, should we just call that place back or is there something else we should try??

I want to bring up my new trolling rig and figure out how to nail those fatties in the river. After fishing with Rich Collins on the Ottawa, I think I have a potential pattern that might get those Menimonee muskies to eat. Can't wait nail a few in the UP in 2003.

Head is coming!!!

Trolling?...oh yea, that's what you do when your arm is stuck your *$*%% too far to cast, right?? ha ha he he.
Ranger, i liked out lodging last time, but a little salty, anything else that is cool, maybe a little cheaper? but i guess i wouldn't have to rent the biggest cabin for next year, since we WON'T be bringing the ladies. if we all three came up (unless Mike is on the WI/MN tour again), could we just bring one boat? we'd have yours, then one of ours too.
well, lets keep this on our agenda's so we can get it hammered thru. i haven't got a fish from MI over 40" yet...maybe June will change that.[:sun:] .
no CATS!!!please. no schwizz pike.
keep it reel,
tomcat

I was thinking the weekends of the 6th or the 13th. The 6th is a "free fishing weekend" you wouldn't have to buy licenses for Saturday and Sunday.

Maybe you guys should target the Twin Falls (Badwater) stretch of the river as opposed to the Kingsford stretch. Edgewater is below the dam on the Kingsford section. Of the two resorts above the dam, the best option doesn't do weekends, only full weeks, in June. I have a call into the other resort above the dam, if they also only offer weekly deals then that just leaves Edgewater.

If you guys want to save some bucks then you could stay in a local motel and trailer your boat to where ever you want to fish. This may be a good idea becuase I want to take you to the mine ponds for at least a half day. (And if the mine pond muskies are hot you probably won't want to go anywhere else. Too much timber to troll in the mine ponds, though.)

Now, to put a twist into all of this.....if we target mid to late May (as opposed to early June) you may be able to get a 3 day weekend in the primo resort (on the Twin Falls section) that is located within sight of where I nailed that 48"er last July. Musky season opens on May 15.

All in all, the best bet may be to stay in a motel in "western" Iron Mountain. You'll be 10 minutes or less from either the Twin Falls or Kingsford sections of the Menominee, and 20-30 minutes from the mine ponds. I can get rates for you if you are interested.

Last, I would be happy to offer a seat in my small but proud boat.

Ranger,
Trolling is not a big importance....but the Mine Ponds are!!! We'll probably spend most of our time on the Mine ponds I'm sure. Maybe spend a half day or maybe an evening trolling the Menominee or even Chicagan after dark!!! Everyone says there are some piggies in there...but its too dang clear for day time fishing.

I'm not worried about the license thing either. I liked our cabin, it sure was nicer than a dump motel.

Ranger, you gonna get time off work or will you fish Saturday and Sunday only??

Tomcat, what do you say?? ....May or June?? I'm up for early June...might be a little warmer up there, muskies might be a little more active. Do you really want to stay at a dive or should we stay on the nicer side??

Yes, the first 4 weeks of the season were hot in 2002, I think I boated 6 or 8 fish during that time period. Which is great action for me. Things began to slow down in late June for me, I think because the fish were moving deeper (warming water temps) and I failed to move with them.
