How Many Lakes Do You Fish?

I was curious to know how many lakes do you fish on a regular basis. As one who just finished up his first year of musky fishing I looking to pretty much concentrate my efforts on getting to learn to fish 2-3 lakes on a regular basis. I live in Rochester, MN so I need to drive 1-11/2 hours one way per trip. I'm thinking about concentrating on Tonka, Petenwell Flowage, which is in Wisconsin, but I'm originally from Nekoosa and my parents still live there and also 1 northern Minnesota lake to fish. What is your take on this theory. Certainly driving distance plays a part of it, but for those of you who live near a lot of lakes to choose from where do you draw the limit. Thanks for the feedback.

The closest lake near me is an hour. That is the fox chain. I usually drive the 2 hours to pewaukee or I go down to shelbyville which is about 3 1/2 hours away. There are no go muskie waters near Wheaton, il.[:blackeye:]

I fish about 25 lakes during the year, mostly because each has something different to offer. I fish Minnesota, Ontario, and my home range of Vilas, Oneida, and Langlade Counties.[]

I fish 7 or 8 regularly but am going to expand that a litle this coming season. I live and Guide in Western WI so that is where I spend most of my time. I also fish Tournaments on other bodies as well.
Bodies of water fished on a regular basis and drive time:
Deer Lake....10 minutes
Apple River..20 minutes
Cedar Lake...20 minutes
Bone Lake....30 minutes
Blake Lake...30 minutes
Butternut....3 hours
Minocqua.....3.5 hours
Cass Lake....4 hours

Will be adding Vermillion, Mile Lacs, Minnetonka, etc. Have fished Mille Lacs & Tonka in the past but not for a year or two. Would like to get back and fish these a couple more times each year. []

Since I live in the Great city of Chicago. I hit regularly Webster Ind., Silver Lake Wi., and Evergreen Il. I will then try to spend one or two long weekends at Kinkaid and one long weekend at either Cave Run or Green River Ky. Then one week or two weeks at Lake of Woods. So, that makes six lakes. Good Fishing, Al[]

I am always trying to find new waters to fish. Living just south of Oneida and Vilas counties I have hundreds of lakes within an hour and a half drive. I have a regular 6-8 lakes I spend the majority of my time on but I keep exploring new waters every year to add to my list.

Each year I pick out about four to eight new lakes I want to fish. Some of these may be numbers lakes, others are picked that are off the beaten path to avoid people, and still others I'm picking with the hopes of finding Miss Piggy. I then try to fish these lakes at least twice (sometimes it may be in consecutive years) to try to get an honest opinion of them. Keeping a good log book helps to keep track of which lakes deserve return trips and which ones just don't fit my style. After several trips to a lake you can tell if you want to put that lake in your list of regulars or just chalk it up to more water explored.

I usually fish about fifteen to twenty different lakes a year, and have probably fished over fifty different lakes in WI alone in search of that one Lake X that will be everything I want it to be.

Because of a bad case of wanderlust, my lake count is different than most. Each year I like to try 5 to 10 new ones along with 10 to 15 that I am fairly familiar with. Some new ones become favorites, bumping others down the list. Sometimes I may go revisit a lake 5 or 10 years later, like visiting a long lost friend. My favorites are often based on aesthetics, rather than size of available fish, depending on my mood that day. I often don't know where I'm going when I leave the house in the A.M. I just head north on Hwy. 51 and in 1 1/2 hours I'm in the mood to decide. Like the old saying--so many lakes, so little time. God willing, I'm going to fish my share, and maybe a few extra. Last winter, during a bad spell of cabin fever, I sat down and made a lifetime list of all the lakes I've fished. In 50+ years of fishing, I came up with 428 lakes so far. This method may not be the best as far as fish totals, but it's what what keeps me going. Now, if I can just find my map, I've got to start looking for some more new water.[;)]

In a year, i usually fish 5 lakes or so. This past year i spent time on Cave Run, 2 hrs, Green river lake, 3 hrs, Salt Fork 2.5 hrs, St. clair 5 hrs, and Chautauqua 6.5 hrs.

I also fish Cledarfork 3.5 hrs and Buckhorn KY 4 rough and tough hours.

I live in Cincinnati, so there isnt any close muskie waters yet, Brookville does have a few and caesars creek is still a couple years away from being a good fishery

This year I fished 8 places wich total 16 lakes. I was fortunate to catch musky in all but 4 of them. I spent very little time in those 4 lakes.

In years past we have fished as many as 40 different waters, Chain lakes being counted as 1. This year 26, not all lakes have muskies. 242,000 mi. and counting on the f150. []
