"There were lots of people who committed Crimes during the year who would not have done so if they had been fishing, and I assure you that the increase in crime is due to a lack of those qualities of mind and character which impregnate the soul of every fisherman except those who get no bites..."

"Dad if dont start doing a real figure8, or AT LEAST a frickin circle, you ARE GOING TO MISS A NICE FISH. Then I'm gonna be real real mad...and then after I get done being mad, I'm gonna laugh at you. And I will NEVER forget it....I will be telling my kids about it while you are in the boat...."
and sure enough....15 minutes later....
That was 6 months ago, I am not at the laughing stage yet.

From one of my mentors when I first got involved in the fishing industry doing seminars and shows.
"Beav, you are going to find out in a hurry that there are more pimps and whores in the fishing business than there are on Bourbon Street."

Good one Beav! True… True… I’m now learning that for myself.

I’m not so much as a whore as I am a slut. What was I thinking![:(]

From my favorite fisherman on Eagle Lake who shall remain nameless to protect the not so innocent...

(Insert big fishing following bait here) "EAT IT YOU #%@$ing #$*&ch"!

... while I sat there wondering why I've never read about this technique before.

My motto for many, many years has been, "In muskie fishing, the only rule is that there are no rules, and the best time to go is when you can!"[] [;)] []

Great Topic, Steve W.....

One of my favorites from the past is as follows:

Noted fly fisherman Lefty Kreh was once asked by a nonfisherman what the sense was of catching a fish just to let it go. He responded: "Do you burn your golf balls after a game?"

I was fishing Leech lake a couple of years ago with a buddy, he has a graph in the back of the boat to look at and see where we are fishing (what depth, structure etc.)
For two weeks, all he kept doing was asking me questions. I'm fishing "HARD", trying to get dialed in to the Ski's and he was driving me "CRAZY"!!!!!
You have to know that I grew up with this man and we have fished together for a long time.

My response to him for two weeks was:

SHUT THE F_CK UP AND FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:halo:]

Was it Doug Johnson who say's It's more important to keep a lure wet then it to have the right lure.Means alot on those tuf days when one wants to switch way to often and not stay with a bait that has your faith.Blummer

Something I learned from my Grandfather years ago...his lesson was to teach me about life. I now use this when teaching others to properly present baits or learn other techniques.

That message is.....

There's an old adage that says, "practice makes perfect"...It is not true...! "perfect practice makes perfect" cuz if you aint doing it right, your only getting better at doing it wrong, every time you do it....

The ol' boy taught me allot in the 17 years we had together...damn I miss him..[:blackeye:]

Whenever anyone asks where the fish are, I tell them to keep flailing and flogging the water into a foamy froth!

"We never actually catch ANY fish casting this time of year...." (guide who will remain nameless - this after 5 hours of jerking the same suick through the water, me and Boro both)

"Just because I am blanking you 4 to zero on fish today, that DOESNT mean you get to try to kill me by dropping knives on me!" (me to Boro)

"Why did you shake that fish off?" (Slimm)
"Cause it was a dink, and embarrassing to have a pic of that!" (me)
"That's why I wanted to take a pic of you with it" (Slimm)

Curly, sound advice from what sounds like a wise grandfather. I wish some more of those old timers were still around to fish and tell stories with. His advice sounds like some I have heard from some old tournament fishermen: second place............just the first loser. They were right, no one remembers who was second, except the guy that finished second. That, I am afraid is my slot in life. [:knockout:]
