8 follows yesterday, one fish tried to eat and totally missed. One tiger actually went around the eight a couple times. I'm trying everything here and I just can't seem to get one of these things to eat. I've played with colors, throwback baits... I guess I'm going to have to try to catch a perch and let it sit on the side of the boat. I don't know what else to do.

obviously there is not sure fire way to make them eat but when bringing the bait into the 8 keep it deep and bring it more toward the surface on the turns. The last 2 follows Ive had Ive caught doing this. I dont fish for tigers so it may be different though.

Try a change in elevation, speed, and stop the bait than move it again. Your doing things right by getting follows. They wont eat every time but eventually they will. Make sure your ready to freespool on the 8 too if they hit. Had a friend two weeks ago lose a mid 40's fish because he didnt freespool in the 8!

Freespool during the 8??? That's the first time I heard that. I'd rather not take that risk.

For what its worth, in the fall muskies don't have a tendency to follow as much as in the summer. I would guess that you are retrieving your bait too fast for the cold water. Also, some days in the fall it seems like the only way to catch them is with a sucker out. But the only rule in muskie fishing is there are no rules. You just never know what will work but seeing fish is better than not.

I mix up my retrieve. Also my rod tip is down in the water for the last 15-20 feet to get me in good figure 8 position. These fish are just stubborn it's getting annoying already...

Big muskies can loose sight of the bait when your doing a figure 8,do a big huge deep oval rising on one end and diving on the other end.You can stop twich and go the opposite direction as well.

Here you go Wally, it might change your mind about the freespool, I always have my thumb on the spool ready to disengage the reel and use my thumb in case a fish hits in the 8. Just until she gets away from the boat than ill re engage and use my drag
