| I know many of you are still fishing in IL,KY,etc. but up here in WI our season is now closed and most of MN is frozen. Time to reflect on this past season...
Looking back on your 2002 season, what did you learn, what will you do different next season..?
Myself... I learned a little more about jig/creature fishing, some self tought some learned from others.
I learned to make sure the emergency kill switch should be the first thing you check when your motor won't start..this should be before you call your buddy to bring you his boat so you can finish the guide trip for the day... [:knockout:] []
Probably most important was another reminder to enjoy each day, friends, family, and time on the water. Catching fish is a bonus...Comaraderie and friendships are for a lifetime.
What will I do different next season...
Fish more....work less...help my buddy build the ultimate muskie garage, and enjoy each day for what it has to offer.
Oh...and check the emerg. kill switch when the motor doesn't start...[;)]
Happy Holidays,

| I will fish more, too.[]
I will also fish big Creatures more next year, I had a blast with them this year.
I will learn to troll more where it is legal.[8)]

| Well, I had a slow start this year, but finished off with a great October and November.
I learned I should have invited Jason into my boat a lot earlier than I did![:praise:]
I learned more about trolling effectively, including equipment and presentation.
I fished more lakes than before.
I learned that when things are tough, to go with your confidence lure.
I learned that sometimes, when you think you're in for just a boat ride, you might get surprised by a great day on the water![;)]
I learned, starting in March at the Cave, that there are great people that visit this site, and I am honored to have met and fished with them.[]
What I would do different?
Can't say really say I'd do a whole lot different. I had a great year, met some great people, fished with a lot of them, and caught some nice fish.
One thing I will do is get out with Dave Dorazio next year, as I never got up there this year.
I will try to use more crankbaits next year.
See you on the hard water this winter![:p]

| One thing I learned this year that helped me put a quite a few extra fish in the boat is paying attention to detail. Paying extra attention to the way my baits are working and the areas I am working them over resulted in the best fish per hour ratio I have ever had.
Structural detail was by far the most important. A spot may be 40 acres in size but I will guarantee you that there are a couple 40'x40' spots that will hold the majority of the active fish on these spots. Beating the water to a froth across the entire structure may produce sporadic results, but to consistently put fish in the boat you really have to concentrate on the "spot on the spot".
I have also learned that I do not have nearly enough baits yet. Over the last 3-5 years I have only picked up a few additional baits a year, I made up for my lack of buying this last year. The bait manufacturers are once again happy to see me coming. There is nothing more satisfying than a Lakewood full of new baits(it sure does seem like the same old few see the most water time though).
One last thing that hit me square between the eyes this year is that its a lot easier to catch a fish if you are on the water. I stopped nixing trips because the conditions were less than ideal, and guess what, I managed to catch some fish on those high skied no wind days. You can't catch them if you aint fishin'.
One thing that I would do over this year is not to set the hood on the eruption of water and wait to feel the fish on my only shot at a fifty inch class fish this year. Man those creepers can be hell on a guy. Hopefully next year I will finally break fifty.

| I learned I really need to slow my presentations down in the fall.
I catch just as many fish on artificials as suckers.
This board has taught me more in 1 1/2 years than I learned in 13 years of muskie fishing.

| I learned:
a. when you sharpen, sharpen EVERYTHING.....sorta lost a pig when i didnt sharpen my bucktails
b. what works for the first 4 months of your season may or may NOT work in the next 6 months of it.....so be flexible.
c. if you show up your partner, and catch 4 fish in a day and he gets none....beware of him dropping knives on you.
d. just because you have a PIG on for 2 and a half minutes.....you can still lose it at the boat like a chump.
e. PUT THE PLUG IN THE BOAT, PUT THE PLUG IN THE BOAT, PUT THE PLUG IN THE BOAT....I learn this every year, but forget at least once a season.
f. When you catch a nice fish by yourself....yelling f;laskjf;ldaskj!!!! may or may not get people's attention to come to your aid and take a pic.
g. Fishing with as many people as you can.....you will learn a tiny bit from everyone, even if it is just more patience.
h. When you relieve coffee pressure off the back of the boat....be certain your phone is in a ZIPPED pocket, cause cell phones do not float.
i. Drink water, not coffee.....ok, so 911 taught me that.
j. Running_Hot is deadly with a sucker to the face.
k. I have the patience to not beat the sh*t out of locals that are drunk and bugging me....I can just point them to Luke_Chinewalker.
l. No matter how much of a hurry you are in to get your boat out of the water....when you reconnect your trailer to the truck, make sure to put the nose wheel UP, they dont like being dragged.
m. Do not show up a minute early to the owner of MuskieFIRST's house to fish....he is old, and moves slow in the morning, so be patient.
n. If you fish with a rookie.....make sure that he realizes that the policy of, you break it - you buy it goes in your book.
o. Never allow a rookie to help you strap the boat down on the trailer....do it yourself, or you may disturbed to notice that the boat is kinda bouncing on the trailer behind you.
p. Even the most evil of dark hearted men can feel some joy and sense of accomplishment if they help out a worth cause....

| Things I learned this year:
1) If your not catching fish on a certain lake, don't fish that lake.
2) Speed really does kill, especially erratic speed.
3) Trolling shallow water with bucktails works great.
4) There are alot of scary hillbillies in indiana, I mean alot.
5) Ralph Florio puts a spoiler on his boat to keep it down on the pavement, otherwise it get's airbourne when he tows it.
6) Boro and Luke Chinwalker actually like me. Of course, I told them where to fish.
7) Running Hot's boat is brown, he is just going to have to deal with it.
8) Pewaukee is green, very green.
9) Of all the things the native americans do to piss us off, taking away their summer this year has me steamed.
10) I need more time off.
11) I still don't have all the baits I want.
12) Getting back in shape feels great and has improved my ability to musky fish, especially those hot summer days.
