I have a 1987 Johnson and need to get a tilt/trim on it. Is there an aftermarket product i should look at or should i try and find a used unit somewhere?

What size motor.

Aftermarket unit is going to be less hassle, and seems to be the way many go. They always set the motor back a few inches so keep that in mind. If you are using a tiller boat you may not be able to set the motor back that far (the handles in that era were not as long as current tiller handles on some engines)

This is info you I would double check but I 'think' you are looking for a 1980 and up unit if you want a factory unit. I KNOW you want a 2 wire unit because they are more common, and replacement motors for that unit are cheaper and easier to find.

Also believe you are looking for a 35-55hp unit. I don't think any of the 60hp and up will work because I always see those tilt/trim units listed as fitting 60-75hp 3cyl, and 85-135hp 4 cyl

Aftermarket=CMC....That's the only one I know of.

Call that place in the Twin Cities with all the old motors. They have the parts to do this. I can't think of the name right now. Just helped a coworker do this on his Pontoon boat last year.

Twin Cities outboard? Oldtimers sucks.
