I would like to plan a fishing trip next year sometime in Wisconsin where there may be 2 or 3 lakes very close to each other that we can jump from lake to lake. I have never been fishing in Wisconsin and know nothing about any of the lakes. Anyone have any suggestions?

Pretty broad question as there are dozens of options if not more. Can you narrow it down to a certain area or county in WI?

It doesn't really matter to me, maybe the southern half, I am from Illinois so I guess the closer the better. But if there are better lakes up north then that's fine also. Just looking for a few suggestions and then ill look into it more.

Go to northern wi. Vilas/Oneida counties, and have endless amounts of water to fish for all species.

Plenty of great fishing to be found in Sawyer county as well.

if you want to jump around, go to northern WI. Some very good muskies in southern WI but much less water to choose from and because of that the pressure is confined to a select few lakes whereas i believe the pressure is much more spread out up north just because of so many more options to choose from.

For something closer to home, there's the Yahara Chain - Monona and Waubesa have good populations of muskies. In the Milwaukee area there's Pewaukee, Ocauchee, and Oconomowac, all relatively close to each other. I prefer early September on those waters. If you want to venture another 4 hours North to Vilas County there are more muskie lakes than you can shake a stick at. I've had my best luck up there in early July, but it can be iffy depending on the weather. I'd pick Vilas if you're looking for variety. Dark water, stained water, clear water, deep, shallow, weedy, cisco based, whatever you like, and you never have to drive more than 1/2 hour to find a completely different type of lake.

Personally, my favorite time to fish is whenever you can. But more and more for me these days I want to fish when I can go out and enjoy the weather. It's just more fun when the temperature is between 55 and 85. I've caught some of my best fish on 95 degree days, and on 40 degree days in the fall. But I've had the most fun when it's 78 and sunny with a nice breeze.

Mid to late October up north. If you want to cast and have an endless amount of lakes go to Vilas county. If you want to troll a bit and cast you would do better in Sawyer county.

Be sure to check if trolling is allowed on the lakes you want to fish in Sawyer county as not all are open for trolling. That said, there are more than enough lakes to choose from for either casting or trolling.
