For those of you who build rods, have you ever extended a blank? If so, where do you get the material for the extension? I just built my first rod and now have the itch to fix some of my older ones. I want to add at least 1' to a couple of my older rods that are too short.

You can use an old rod like I did, or a dowel rod of the correct size will work.

I prefer an old rod over a dowel. Buy a cheap rod and strip it.

Like the other guys said, a piece of an old blank will work. Make sure it's heavy walled like a musky or surf blank. Golf club shafts work well also. If you need step by step directions, shoot me an email- [email protected].

Hiya,

If you have a custom rod shop around you, they will probably have pieces left over from other rods they have built to use at a fraction of the cost of buying a cheap rod and stripping it, and it would be stronger than a piece of dowel rod as well.

I know Thorne bros has tons of rod pieces...the last 3 that I have built I used an extra piece from them. I would bet if you could give them the inside dimension of the butt end of your rod, they could find a piece and send it to you as well...
