Trying to decide between the Fortrex 80 and Maxxum 80 on a Alumacraft Competitor 165.
I like the universal sonar and lift-assist of the Fortrex but i'm wondering if it will be too bulky/heavy on the bow of a boat of this size?

Apparently there is a lift assist available for a Maxxum.

This is just internet here say but it seems like I see issues with the Fortrex mount pop up now and again. You should be able to get U/S with the Maxxum too.

sending a PM too

Thanks for the info. I dont believe the Maxxum is available with universal sonar anymore however.

We have a Fortrex and I don't think you will notice the weight difference. The lift assist is nice.

Can't speak for the newer Maxxum specifically, but the Fortrex is incredible. Got an 80lb on the 165 Navigator and love it. Had a 74lb Maxxum on the last boat (about 10 years old this year), and the Fortrex is way smoother. It won't be too big for your boat.
