| Might be a dumb question but what is the difference between a musky sucker and a decoy? Is it size? |

Location: Elk Grove Village, IL & Phillips, WI | Decoys are normally made of wood used for spearing fish that are attracted to the decoy. Some spearers may use a live sucker.

| Thats what I thought too but the bait store that I talked to said they had musky suckers and decoys suckers for live bait.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I've seen many shops that call their largest suckers "decoy" suckers. Just means they're bigger than the rest. Around here that usually means 12" instead of 7-9". |

| alot of spearers use monster suckers for decoys in the winter. so, alot of baits shops call their largest suckers decoys.

| The hardcore spearers I have known actually will use a large fake decoy and a live one at the same time. The fake one works better for drawing in fish from a distance and the live one helps keep them interested once they come in. |

| The term decoy sucker is a phrase used in some of the MN bait shops. A decoy sucker would be 9 to 11 inches....with anything larger refered to as a musky sucker. Or $4.50 compared to $6+ |

Location: Minnesota | Generally... when one sees a decoy sucker... its no bigger than 10-11" and is mainly used for spearing...
Sometimes its best to check out locations... some places sells Musky Suckers as decoys and it'll save you couple good dollars... til they catches on, then the price goes up...
Whenever calling, I never ask for Muskie suckers... I always ask if they have 15" or bigger... and they usually do... |
