| Anyone having any luck floating suckers? I'm planning on taking a day off work next week and coming up to the lake to fish a little. Haven't got out all year. Still fairly novice, so any pointers on fall fishing would be well appreciated.
PS, I'm too broke for a guide otherwise yes I would get one |

| Hey Jeff---I was just out on Webster last wkend for the first time this year. Fishing was "steady" several follows-------had three on suckers. Biggest fish came on a dbl 10 bucktail---abt 48 inches. Not going "GANGBUSTERS" yet-----water temps were in the middle 50's and the 45 mph winds and rain didn't really help much. Gonna be Indian Summer this week with air temps in the 70's-----so much for helping the lakes to finish turning over. Fish were MOVING------quickly so you can use whatever you'd like and probably get some action. I'm gonna wait another week before coming back down there-----hope for some cooler temps------Good Luck----Jobu |

Location: syracuse indiana | well that all depends Dubs350. first off the bait shop in town ye-old has very good suckers and their store in right in town across from ACE hardware and in the sjopping mall between CVS and the gas station. their address is 703 main st hwy 13 they have a huge selection of musky stuff too..
now for the lakes
Webster has 2 ramps, one is a state ramp off of backwater rd. east of hwy 13. and the other is in town. turn east at the ligure store and that will take you to dixi rd and the ramp is right off that rd to the left
Barbee is 4 miles south of webster, the state ramp is off of B7 (on 13 just before the flowing well. if you get to the number 1 bait store you missed it.) there is a brown state ramp access site sign just before that road.
and for tippie the best ramp for that body of water.. go south out of webster. as you come to the first light. cr 550/Armsrtong rd there is a closed pizza place and a funeral home at that light. turn right go about 4 miles. there is a state ramp there on grassy creek that will go to tippie or into barbee (if you can fit through the lock) but i suggest to continue west and you will see a pie eye'd pete's sign on both sides of the road. you will turn right on T17 then turn right on the second road and P.E.P will be on the left... good ramp 10.00 will get you in and out. #*^@ good food . they have a kick butt bar too. if you need any other info let me know...bill

See you guys on the water-----Jobu |

| just got back from Webster-----talk about WINDY!!!! nothing like fishing in a HURRICANE to keep you on your toes. Wish the fish were biting------but that was not the case. We had 6 rips on suckers------but they were dropping the sausages as quickly as they picked them up. Water temps were anywhere from 48 on Backwater to 53 out on the main. After the sleet, wind, and rain the next three days---it ought to drop some more. Hope they start biting soon. Great seeing you Johnny----gotta hang again soon----Jobu |

| Just got back from the BEST weather weekend this whole fall , so far, on Webster. Light winds, overcast-----alittle sun-----crisp morning temps----and water temps from 42 on Backwater to 47 on the main lake. Fishing was pretty inconsistent-----went 3 for 4 -----36,37,and a nice fat 43 on a sucker. Looks like a warm up next weekend----that'll probably shut the fishing down again--haha. At least we'll get a few more wkends before the ice sets up. Good luck------Jobu |

Location: syracuse indiana | ye-old has very good suckers this year. Todd has been getting them from a differnt place and they are full of life and are strong and can last for weeks. i have a few left i need to get more for my tank. and you wont find any meat as good as the ones they have been getting for that price either...bill |

| Fished Wed, it was a sunny day and didn't see a fish. Temps were 46 on main lake and 45 on backwater. They just got a fresh shipment of nice sized suckers on Wed. |

| Just gt back from another WINDY weekend on Webster. Lots of boats out there Saturday--soakin' up the rays. We went 1 for 2---a nice chunky 38 on a quick strike rig. Lost about a 45 five feet from the boat--oh the pain! The weather was gorgeous until the 40 mph winds started howling again. Water temps were around 47-48 on the main lake. Fish are STILL scattered---got one up shallow-----and one out deep----I wish they would make up their minds----sheesh! Try it again next weekend. Good luck---Jobu |

| Trent M that pretty much is the case right now . I was out last week with Keith Cortopassi (who is absolutly on fire this year ) and we got 3 in two days , 45 1/2 and 46 both on meat one 36 on a pounder . If you are not dragging at leat two suckers out there you are wasting your time . Keith has gotten 51.6, 50.6, 49.75 , multiple 46, and 44 recently all on meat using MUSKY PSYCHO live bait rigs he makes (only ones i use ) . You get one or two shots a day on meat right now . FISHING SUCKERS IS A MUST OUT THERE !!! |

| Sounds like everyone is "in the same boat" out there right now. Suckers are the most productive choice right now-----but we've gotten fish on everything from spinners to Grandmas in the last two weeks too. Just gottta find the hungry ones, I suppose. See you guys on the water----Jobu |

Location: South Bend, Indiana | I guess I'm going to have to learn how to sucker fish..... Only have done it once and it was a failure... I'm mostly confused on how you weight them.. any tips or advice? |
|
|
|
| I weight mine one of two ways------either a rubber core sinker on the braid before the rig(anywhere from 3/4 oz up to 1.5 oz) or put a bell sinker on a heavy snap before your favorite quickstrike. Either way works---just use enough weight to keep your suckers down. Keeping the line vertical helps with depth control. I've used several rigs---the Hulcano, Maina lift-off, Shumway's clip-n-go, and even circle hooks----they ALL work if you use them right. Good luck----Jobu |

Location: syracuse indiana | also trent one big key on any QS rig is to make sure that fish is going away from you. then set her hard. give it two good hooksets. if you use the rubber band method i always run the rubber through the snout then twist it to make it smaller and tighter against the sucker. this does 2 things. it will keep the rig snug against the sucker and make it tighter and it will then be easier to break on the first hooset. and the second nails it home. and as for the weight. basicly what jobu said i do make my own rigs and i make them 3 feet long. and on the top swivle i can add all my weight to keep them down. but if you have them under a bobber they have a tendancy to swim up as far as they can. this ok they will go back down. . if i have them under a bobber i want them to swim around. now if i am putting them below the boat i will use more weight so that it will keep them down. as they can still swim around the weight at the level i want them to be at....bill |

Location: syracuse indiana | hey jobu why dont you fish the WLMC turkey brawl. you can fish any lake and use suckers. this is not a tournament just a fun gettogether for the club and fello musky nuts who would like to be in it.. there is a big fish contest. that is 10.00 to get in and its 100% payback too. just for fun of course.. and we are getting together afterwards at curts house right by the webster ramp for a good dinner and drinks.. justr bring a dish or chips or something for the food and if you drink bring that too.. we will have a couple deep fried turkeys ect.....bill more info on the clubs website www.websterlakemuskyclub.net |

| Thanks for the invite Bill. I already talked to Curt and Chae about it last week--- I am going to try and make it. My fishing partner for the weekend is an author for Esox Hunt online magazine and a "former" author for MI magazine and a few other publications----gotta try and get him on fish so he can write some articles. Thanks alot for the invitation though-----I will try and get there before registration in the morning-----otherwise perhaps we'll just meet up with you at Curt's place for the get-together. See ya out there----Jobu |

| Kinda slow on Webster Sunday, we dragged a sucker and casted for about 5 hours, not even a follow. Also talked to a guy that had been working the lake for 3 days, and he had not seen a fish either. Water temp about 45*. YeOld has plenty of medium size suckers. Maybe they will turn on this week!!! |
|

|
| Just got home from Webster---GORGEOUS out there this weekend. Bobzilla scored a nice low 40 inch class on a sucker. Ended up 2 for 3 ---had about 10 follows on various baits---fish were moving---had to cover a TON of water. Ye Olde was almost OUT of suckers. They ordered 125---got 120 not sure if they are gettingany more this season---but there were only a few dinks left in the tanks as of this am. Water clarity is getting better-----fish were following HARD. Maybe next weekend's cold snap will get 'em snappin'. Good luck-----Jobu |

|
| Another successful outing on ol' Webby this weekend. Mikey scored a beautiful 42" ---not a mark on her---awesome! The weather was all over the place but it got absolutely beautiful at sunset last night---just in time for Bobzilla to raise a genuine 50" just before his trip back to Ft Worth today. You'll get one next time Spanky Joe-- a great time was had by all! Next weekend -----ST CLAIR!!!!!!!!!!!----jobu |
