I have a small 14.5' deep V that I use mostly for trolling and a little casting. Eventually I am looking to get a larger boat but for now I am going to continue using the one I have. It has a 9.9 evinrude that is older (1996 model 2 stroke) and it is a little loud. I am looking to get a new outboard for my boat and may consider a 15hp to help scoot me around a little better. What brand of outboard is the quietest and do you think going from a 9.9 to a 15 will show much different in speed?

You will see a large jump in speed with the new four stroke outboards. I would suggest a 15 hp mercury. That should plane the boat out And be very quiet.

Not sure I agree with the last post about speed but the 4 strokes are very smooth and quiet at slow speeds. No more smoke. In many cases the 9.9 and 15 hp are in the same family and have the same displacement. Very little performance diffrence. more or bigger cylinders change performance. What is the HP rating on the boat? If you are selling The 9.9, let me know.

I would keep the motor u have if it runs well save the money for an upgrade. The musky don't care.

A 15hp 4 stroke will give no performance increase over your 9.9 2 stroke.

I'd keep the 9.9 too. Pretty bulletproof motors.
