Location: Stevens Point, WI | The fourth annual MuskieFIRST Spring Bay Resort Fall Outing got underway this afternoon as Spring Bay Resort welcomed a full camp. Congratulations to Rudy as he stuck this 53, a new personal best for him to kick off the outing Wednesday afternoon. The weather doesn't look pleasant over the next couple days with lows dipping below freezing tonight and hovering around the freezing mark over the next few days. Highs are expected to be in the 40's with winds staying under 15 mph. Water temps are running the high to mid 40 degree range and have been falling steadily over the last few days. Stay tuned for daily reports as things happen throughout the next four days!

Sucks knowing my regular fishing crew is at Spring Bay the same time as the M1st crew and I'm not a part of either team this time around.
If you see a mixed up bunch of guys from Chicago that are so f'd up, they're both sox fans and ......................Packer fans.............Yeah, thats them. three of them are brothers and I have a feeling their mother had butter fingers and likely dropped all of them on their heads one time too many. Its all good. I love them like brothers. Joe K is in a 20' Alumacraft Trophy w/200 Merc. say Hello.
Dont think theyve seen much muskie action but theyve been on some nice walleyes for sure. Cant wait to see more fish. Im extremely jealous as Im on the D/L and stuck with Dr's appointments etc. I should be there. (way behind on deer season as well because of it. GGGRRRRHHHHH.
Go Get em Boys. (And girls???) |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | Windy and snow was the name of the game today. Fishing was a bit slow according to the Natalie cabin but still waiting on reports from others.
Congrats to Terry Watson on boating her first muskie ever, a 48 incher. Tonts23 scored a 47.5 and 39 inch pike while Top H2O also boated 35 incher.
Tonight's weather is calling for a low of 19 with a high of 47 tomorrow and south winds at 14 mph.

| Sounds like perfect conditions to me. Hoist up your long-johns and get in the boats, the days are short and the stories are long by the fire at nite. Great time of year. Have fun whether catchin' fish or catchin' hell. What r they eating?

Location: NW Iowa | I agree, Rudy was a Poor host and wouldn't stay up. Doc was a little slow this morning since he stayed up 3 hours past his bedtime(even though he was told to kennel up):). Fishing is tough but it's a great time with a great group of guys. Hopefully this afternoon we can boat a few and get more pics. |

The fishing may have been a bit tough this week following the front that moved through on Thursday but the laughter that followed after fishing hours is well worth it!
Congratulations to Rudy on his 53 incher. Rudy takes home a free stay for next year for the biggest fish of the week.
A big thanks to the Joe, Steve and the whole Amundson family for another superb outing!

Location: NW Iowa | It was another great Outing with an extremely fun group of guys. TopH2O put me on a nice fish and I got a bonus video of it. I am already looking forward to next year and the good times around the campfire, listening to Jerome and TJ BS in the front of the boat and learning the "Jerry Jig".(Video coming soon right TJ). Most of all thanks to Steve and his family for everything they do for this event. If you haven't been to Spring Bay and the Big V you are missing out. See everyone next year!!! |

Can someone explain what happened here?
Well this is just a wild guess->
Steve in his good camp operator mode some years back decided to provide his guests with a convenient way to tell the temperature, i.e., other than Burrrrrrrrrrr! So he drives a nail into this pine tree to hang a thermometer on. This naturally starts a chain reaction, pine beetles invade the tree, and ultimately their grubs are gradually killing it.
Rudy has ran out of suckers, and no one will lend him any because he's already bagged a 53"r. He comes swaggering along back to the cabin (actually I thought of a different word), see's the tree and has an Ah Ha! moment - pine beetle grubs, I can catch my own #*^@ed suckers. You see the results of his efforts to capture those grubs. That's my story and even though I wasn't there, I'm sticking to it!
Well- maybe a bear!
Have fun!
Al

Location: WI | Even without seeing a musky, it was a good time. Kinda scary about the tree, at least it wasn't somebody's truck, boat, or a cabin. Good to meet a bunch of the M 1st faithful, now I undrestand some of the comments. G-Rome, we didn't see a 69 on the way home. Great hospitality from the Amundson family. Hope to see you all again next year. |

| ryan and i made it home with no unusual events like on the way up.it started with him getting a speeding ticket in wisconsin that let him put $171.00 into the states coffer.then we pull over becuz of the "smoke" pouring out behind the truck, turns out that somehow the wind/boat cover figeured out a way to deploy my fire extinguisher UNDER the cover, carpet, rods, reels and baits are covered in the white crap from it.what a mess!tied on one of my double 8's in black/purple flashaboo with gold blades, the same one that cuaght 2 others over 50 this year, and proceed to do battle with the fish of my dreams and somehow win the fight despite the net guy pulling the handle off while trying to extend it,then picking up a couple fowled baits in the hoop plus hooking one on my line which required him grabbing my line with this hog of a fish on the other end but finally he slid the net under her.[the net guy is the link that finally puts the fish in the boat,it's a thankless job but ryan came thru, thanks buddy!]i think you could of heard the war hoop down in cook!ahh, then the campfire, what fun with a great group of people!as for not being a good host, who the hell invited you anyways?[just kidding!]i was "sedated" from a rough day on the water and honestly didn't hear a thing!as for the tree i think it was maybe a "rub" of some sorts, hopefully steve's big buck.thanks to s.b.r. for another great time.it was decided around the campfire/cabins that the fishing is something we did to pass the time before play time.my sides still hurt from laughing!the stories were endless!you had to be there to get it.....is that a dog??hilariuos stuff!there was even an elvis sighting!we had great cabin mates again this year and hopefully we'll hook up again in 2013.see everybody next fall. |

Finally nailed her at 10 minutes after sunset tonight,..I,ve been stalking her for 8 days....I caught her on the westside of the Island by the big rock,..... she smoked a Cisco Doubledawg halfway back to the boat, and went airborn before I could get the net,.... but she stayed pinned long enough to finally get her in the net.... Lots of FUN!!! |
