i dont like using heavy floro when throwing jigs and smaller jerk baits so i wanted to make some leaders that dont have big snaps and such large diamater. was going to use small split rings to attach baits to leader.

i was interested in using tyger wire leader material because it seems pretty simple just twist and melt but i have read some bad reviews on it. im not sure what pound to get either was planning on going with 40-60# tho

would like to make my own so i can save on cost but i geuss i am a little confused with the different types of wire.

any opinions would be appreciated.

check out the american fishing wire 49 strand copper/brown wire. i make my own using the 40 and 90lb for smaller baits / jigs. using a small split ring on one end and a small 90lb spro barrel swivel on the other, i crimp using small double barrel sleeves but instead of the "normal", one loop left out of the end of the sleeve, take the wire back thru and up into the sleeve again so you end up with a loop on both ends of the sleeve and crimp properly and they will never slip. i take it a step further and put a small piece of shrink wrap over each sleeve. works for me...

Either 124lb single strand or 60-80lb fluoro works for me.

60# Sevenstrand is perfect for jigs.

thanks for the responses. i honestly thought the idea of the tyger wire was really nice, a couple twists and fuse it together. maybe this is a fairly new concept i dunno.

probably going to go with the 60 seven strand like sworral suggested because if made properly should be fine...

For jigs or small cranks, I use either Twist weld 30lb, real similar to the tiger stuff, OR a 45 lb seven strand. Yes, the 19 - 49 strand wire is very flexible and holds up well and kinks less. A bit more expensive to buy the 19+ strands wire.

I use 90# cortland toothy critter stuff. Not sure why it isn't more popular. Easy to knot. You can fuse it too if you want, but I wouldn't trust myself to do it properly and knots work great.

I know you said you do not like the heavy flouro as well as the big snaps, so this may not be helpful. However, my solution to the issue was to just downsize the snap on the 130# leader for jigs.

The only problems I've ever had with seven-strand is when the crimp was bad. Most of the time I use a haywire twist and some shrink tubing over the enr for neatness. I like to tie direct instead of using a snap or a ring though.

I've been using the Tyger leader for a while with jigs and smaller twitch baits. Haven't had any issues. Just a regular ole clinch knot works fine. Never had a failure. I believe I'm using 45 and 60# test, but I'd have to look to confirm.

i appreciate all your advice, and it seems very similar. I just did not want to waste alot of money to decide what use. I watched some videos on making leaders today and i geuss i really overcomplicated it in my mind.

thanks, good luck

I'm with Sworrall, Sevenstrand for jigs .......... you are only preventing bite-offs.
With smaller lighter twitchbaits like Mike Kings Talonz, I've heard people good guy up a storm about the action when the were using single strand leaders or 40-60 Flouro, 60# Sevenstrand is like throwing them on light mono. Better action with no fish loss.
