| Hey guys, I am looking into getting a ranger 619 or 620 this off season and I am just wondering what kind of tow vehicles you guys are using.
Right now I have a Silverado with the smaller 4.8L V8, would that be enough? |

| I have a 620 and have had to use a friends 2 wheel drive 4.6 V6 a few times so I think you will be fine. |

You will be fine, buit it's not going to have a lot of reserve power. Driving the speed limit will help on the MPG.
Make sure you have the tow package. If not, make sure you install a tranny cooler, and use TOW/HAUL mode.

Location: Bloomingdale, IL | More important question that everyone on here neglected is, what gears are in the rear end? A smaller V8 would be more than acceptable with 3.73 or 4.10, but 3.31 or 3.23 wouldn't make for a fun trip, as far as hills or gas pump is concerned. |

Location: Dane Country | I tow with a 1997 Ford F250 Super cab,2wd,460,auto and 3:55 rear. I like the over sized brakes, plenty of power and plenty of room. Yoalready own the truck pull with it. my truck has been paid for a long time, cheap insurance and nothing wrong with it. I'm just starting to get wheel well rust in the rear. |

| 5.3L Vortec is plenty big enough and pulls it w/ ease. Many times I forget I'm pulling a fully loaded 620. Anyone that has ever been in my truck when towing has commented on how it feels as if nothing is behind the truck. Pulls boat out of the worst ramps in late fall with ease...
I carry a recovery strap with me nearly all year and have spent several times pulling even bigger trucks out of snow banks with ease... |

Just went to an '08 Expedition EL with the Triton 5.4 this week. My Ranger is only a 681 but I can already tell that towing with this thing is going to be sweet...

| Trying to resurrect an applicable thread for this question. I have a Crestliner Fishhawk 1750 with a 115 merc. I currently have a 2002 ford explorer but its slowly falling apart. I'm looking to stay in the same size SUV. Any suggestions? I'd like something more reliable than my explorer has been the last few years. Was looking at a Honda Pilot but their towing capacity just doesn't sound like enough, especially if I ever upgrade my boat to an 1850+ at some point. Thoughts? |

Location: Green Bay, Titletown, WI | The new Explorer's are quite nice, and the 3.5l V-6 will be plenty to tow an 18 footer. Ford really put a lot of time and effort into reviving the old Exploder, to get away from the horrible quality reputation it had. I know you don't want to get a bigger vehicle. But give the new F150's a thought too. High teens for gas mileage, and tons of power. Guys who are driving unloaded on the highway are getting 20+ mpg, and still can tow a 11,000 lb trailer without a problem. PM me if you have any questions. |

I dont think a pilot is an equivalent vehicle to a v6 explorer, I think a ridgeline would be closer to the equivalent. A buddy tows his 20 foot glass bassboat with hiss ridgeline, he also had an exploder before and said the ridgeline tows way better, and another friend tows a pretty decent size RV with his--they both rave about them. Any reasonable size v6 with a frame ought to do fine on your boat. I have a lund the same size as your boat, maybe a little heavier, I tow with a 4-cyl tacoma. Its a dog on hills but I can yank it out of the muck at dirt ramps no problem. |
