| On my hds 5 I have the navionics chip for it and when I have the screen split with the chart and sonar I can't make my position locked in so wherever I go on the lake the little triangle goes. Does anyone know how to adjust the settings so it does that? |

| What shows up on your chart? Is it a "+" sign instead of the cursor? If so, you should be able to just hit exit on the menu. Otherwise I have no idea what it might be, never saw that happen before. |

| I don't know I'm at work right now. I'll have to look. Just whatever it is doesn't follow along with the chart map. I'll zoom into where I'm at on the lake and as I'm working a shoreline the map stays where I zoomed in at not where my boat is. |

This seems the most likely. If you move the cursor before zooming in, the map will stay locked on that particular location.
There are also a few different setting under the chart options that may impact this, but without looking at my unit, I cant recall what they are offhand. |

So when I turn it on I have to zoom in first then move it to get it locked onto my boat? No. Turn the unit on, if you are in an open area without any obstructions you should get a GPS lock in seconds following the Lowrance boot screen.
If you are using your keypad to view areas on the lake where you currently are NOT sitting, you need to hit the "Exit" button, for it to resume where you are actually located.
The cursor (arrow) will always be where you are currently located (provided you have a GPS lock) regardless if it is viewable on your screen at the time, like if you move your position using the buttons.
If you notice this happening again, hit the exit button and see if that fixes it or zoom way out to see where your cursor is.
