In the past, I have been critical of Lowrance and have posted negative comment on this and several other fishing sites.
A little over 3 years ago in late July, when the Lowrance HD units were making their debut, I bought a LCX-112. The following summer, I installed the unit on my boat, but the units GPS mapping system did not work right out of the box so I was instructed to send it in for warrantee work, and was without the unit for about 5 weeks. When the repaired unit was returned to me, I was happy that it was in working order, but afraid it would fail again. I realized, I had only 3 weeks left on my one-year warrantee, and tried to buy the extended 2-year warrantee offered by Lowrance. After 3 weeks of frustration and over 25 phone calls, I talked to a service supervisor who was shocked at the difficulties I encountered while trying to purchase the extended warrantee. He proceeded to give me the extended warrantee for free because of the difficulties I encountered while trying to purchase the extended warrantee. I was surprised and grateful.
The unit continued to work well until 2 days after the extended warrantee expired. The GPS system failed, and I thought I was in trouble. I called Lowrance service, and after hearing my story, a service technician told me to send the unit to Tulsa, and it would be covered under the extended warrantee. Again, I was surprised and grateful. On Friday, I received a new HD 10 as replacement for the old LCX 112.
I have used Lowrance products for 20 years and last year purchased a Humminbird, which works well. As I am looking to buy and rig a new boat within the next 6 months, I was ready to buy Humminbird units, but I will continue to run Lowrance on all my boats. I am thankful Lowrance stood behind the warrantee even though they were not bound to honor it. Thanks Lowrance!!!
