Anyone have any thoughts on power handles for the 400D and/or the 300D? Does the new outside star drag affect which handles they will accept as compared to the TE or B models?

What are the first impressions of these reels? I've been using Calcuttas for over 15 years, and can't wait to get my hands on my new 400D. I'm sure I'll still use the Winch that is currently at the front of my line-up, but I'm excited to see a new offering from Shimano like this. The Tranx is just too much money and too big for me at this point. I've thrown it a few times and I'm sure I could get used to it, but I don't know if I would ever really love it. I'm still considering a Trindad for burning as well.

I love the reel, the handle is great, I wish it would fit on my 300 curado as well. Not sure if it works on other reels either. If I had the funds I would have a couple more, I have had about every muskie reel out there over the years and this is the only one that seems like a progression in the "feel".. Hard to explain, but you should give one a try. BR

It's on order with a split grip Long Ranger.

Steve, you never say anything bad about a product, and with good reason. I'm sure I will love the 400D as soon as I get my hands on it. I just really like the power handle on my winch, and want to try one on the 400D. If only Shimano would give you both handles like Abu does.

The paddle handle on the calcutta D is long, I would give it a whirl before switching it out. BR

I tell the truth about products; just do it better than most, if you don't like a product tell folks why you like another better instead of trying to force your probably less than 100% reality based opinion up everyone's backside.

I really like the 400D. It's glassy smooth, powerful, and the stock handle is all I will ever need.

I don't own a 'bad' reel, because I use each as it is intended to be used and take care of them, too. My Toros rock. The Winch is too slow for most of what I do, but has a spot in the arsenal for working bigger stuff more deliberately. My Okumas are working great, tossing spinnerbaits, topwaters, and Suicks. I own 5 Abu C3 models, and two have a power handle. I'm taking those off, they make the reels click over during the cast, just like the power handle did on my Indurons, so off they come BEFORE a reel gets trashed (after which many here would proclaim the reel 'junk'), not needed anyway.

Is there a power handle for the 400D?

Thanks

The stock handle on the 400D is over 105mm long, most are 90mm long so U don't need a single paddle power handle, Shimano made it so U could not replace the stock handle with a single handle for a reason.

That is interesting because the few times I have done that my posts have mysteriously disappeared.

I love my 400D. Smooth, no backlashes, fits in your hand perfectly, pulls big baits like the big reels. Great all around reel.
