After getting on the water this weekend, I realized my batteries were dead... After a closer look, it seems the one of my batteries was running on about 12.5 volts while the other had about 6 volts. The on-board charger only lights up on one side indicating that it may only be charging one battery? But here's the weird thing, the two batteries are linked with a connecter... so shouldn't they share power and have equal voltage? So, do you think it's my on-board charger, or my one battery that is the problem? I hooked the "faulty" battery up on a manual charger for the night, I'm going to take it off later tomorrow and see if it retains power or loses it... what do you guys think?

Check the fuses on the charger. I've had that happen and found out that one battery was low when a mile away from the launch of an electric only lake.

switch the batteries and see how the charger reads after that and you will get your answer

So I'm sure that it's the charger, now it's time to figure out if it's fixable or if it's time for a new one...

If the charger lights stayed the same when you switched the batteries its definitely the charger. But, your battery that is at 6volts was probably murdered by the bad charger. That is, if its been in that condition for some time. Lead-acid batteries sulphate (are permanently damaged) when they sit for any extended period of time without a proper recharge. There are websites that claim their products or processes can reverse the damage. If its a VRLA - not likely. If its a wet-cell maybe, but the shed sulphates may create a shorted cell. Just get a new battery, you'l be back on the water faster.

Have fun!

Take your batteries up to a battery shop or auto parts store & have them load tested. Most likely you have one or more bad cells.
