heading to Cable in the a.m. and am looking for a smaller action lake to try besides Namekagon? Any lake nearby with muskies will do and if anyone knows the road names for boat launches would be great. Thanks

Upper Clam lake has muskies only 15 minutes east of Namakagon. I don't know of the population or size. I just know there are muskies there. Day Lake is also right by Clam lake. Good numbers, but all small fish. It's a real shallow stained lake. There are a few other lakes right around Clam lake, but I couldn't tell you if any of them had muskies. Good luck

How small is "small" ?

Lost Land and Teal (2300 acres) are directly south of Namekagon. Public boat launch is off of Landing Camp road.

Fished Upper Clam a couple times. Pretty good numbers and you will most likely have the lake to yourself. Day Lake also has good numbers but smaller fish. Day is really fun to fish because the whole lake is full of weed and you can cast just about anywhere. Lost Land and Teal have a nice population of fish in the low to mid 30" range with some bigger around as well. I used to fish them quite a bit and they run hot and cold. Sometimes several fish in a day, sometimes you might have one follow. A couple more options I've fished that would be good are Ghost Lake, the Tiger Cat Flowage, Spider Chain (all right off of Hwy 77). Send me a PM with where you are headed and I can give you some bait colors/patterns.

When I was at Clam the boat ramp was interesting to say the least......Upper Clam IIRC, but I could be wrong about that.

What was interesting about it? I'm going to be up there next weekend and this was on my list of lakes to try.

Like everyone else says, Day is a numbers lake. If you don't at least get a follow or a blow up on a topwater, you don't have a line in the water. All little dinkers, though.

I haven't actually tried to launch there, but it looks very narrow with no turnaround or parking. I think you might have to back it in from the highway, and then park on the shoulder of Hwy. 77. Not sure if the ramp itself is suitable for larger boats.

Jacko, I plan to fish Ghost Lake off of Hwy 77 in a couple of weeks. You mentioned in your post colors/patterns. What can you tell me about Ghost Lake?
