And arent SUPER EXPENSIVE! I seen a pete mania series at Bass Pro Shops? And wondering if yall had any other ideas? |

| You basically get what you pay for in a reel. |

Just why do you need to burn double 10s? Did I miss something that they wouldn't hit double 8s being burned?
And will a hungry muskie pass a reg dawg for a mag dawg only? These creatures have little brains and to think they reason that they will only eat a certain size is false. A bigger bait may draw a bigger fish from farther away, but so may a reg size one.
Maybe you can find a used reel? I'm sure that they are some that want to get rid of their Abu 7000s as they could handle the heaver baits, but burning may be an issue as the High Speed gold model are junk. |

I didn't mean to be rude and said what I did in jest.
You should be able to have Shimano fix your calcutta cheaper than buying another reel unless you drove over it. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Answer is, there isn't a 'cheap' double ten reel that will last other than some specialty reels built for salt applications. I agree with the Cortez, it works and works well, but it's not a small reel. Mine has held up well so far.
Watch your language here, please. |

Location: Esbjerg - Denmark | How about an Okuma ISIS 400...
In terms of size, gear-ratio, line-pick-up etc. it is very similar to the Calcutta 400. You can get it of ebay for about 180 bucks, and I've heard some great things about it (make a search for: Midseason review of the new Okuma Isis 400).
I haven't tried it out my self, but am serriously considdering buying one soon.!!
Just to get this thread back on track |

Location: Denmark | The John Deere of Musky reels, ABU GARCIA AMBASSADEUR 7000i HSN. It is a strong and cheap alternative. Has dual anti reverse, and the larger spool diameter and 5,3:1 makes this reel a candidate for burning.

| I like the 7000's and they are workhorses that will last but even with a full spool I can't burn 10's as fast as I would like unless I am cranking like a mad man. That get's old quick.

| hmmm the abu sounds like a good choice, i mean i dont burn 10's very often my main fall line up here is gonna be bulldawgs! And bigger crankbaits like the 12" Grandma Lure. So i need a work horse! and i like the sounds of this beast! I'm for sure gonna check this one out i appreciate all the help fellas! And i didnt mean to get this thread this far off topic! But if yall can think of anymore i could use future references and i'd love to try new product after my finances are in order! |

| WI, I am also on a tight budget and only get to fish 3-4 times a year. I have both the 7000 HSN and 7000 c3. The HSN will wear you out burning DC10s. Go with the 7000i C3. You may not be able to burn them as fast as you want, but its powerful and cheaper than the HSN. It's bigger bodied, but no heavier than the HSN. Ebay has em for $129. I just got one from this same vendor and it runs great so far.
