| Looking for some info on what guys running 50-60 hp fourstroke tillers are running for setups, prop? Power Steering? Trolling speeds / plates? Max Speeds? Splash guards? Anything else that helps?
Recently purchased a Warrior v166 tiller with a 50hp 4 stroke. Performance is adequate but slow.
Looking for some thoughts on optimizing the package.

What information have you collected on the motor while at speed? Do you have a tach on the boat and if so, what are you getting for full throttle and what speed are you seeing? How does the boat come out of the hole if you punch it? And lastly, what brand of motor and what is the prop's pitch and diameter?
All of these pieces help put the puzzle together in order to optimize the rig. I'll help if I can.
Generally in many cases, a boat with a 50hp motor on it will do anywhere from 27 to 35 miles per hour depending on the boat design, the prop being run, and the overall weight of the rig. This is a fairly broad stroke of the brush, though, and many other things come to play as well.
Things like power steering would not be needed with that size of motor as there is not very much hand torque you will feel while at speed if the torque tab has been adjusted. Trolling speeds can get down to under 1 mph depending on the brand of motor, given they have an adjustable idle speed....I believe Yamaha has that on their 4 stroke series (VTS if memory serves me correctly?)

| Im running mid 20's at just over 6000 with a 12P Spitfire. On an older Mariner 50 4 stroke. Holeshot is ok. It has a hydrofoil / dolphin thingy on it. I took it off and tried it and not sure it changed much, a little extra bow lift maybe on take off, no real change in speed so I put it back on.
RPM is rated for 5500-6000 so I think I could bump up in pitch a bit. It feels like I could use a bit more stern lift, like what I got with a rev4 on my 692. Hoping to tweek to get 30mph and get rid of the hydrofoil thing.
Idle is @ 1000, which the spec is 725, so I need to turn that down, forward troll is @ 2.5ish, backtroll is 1.3-4 or so, getting the idle down should help both those.
I know power steering is not necessary, but there are options for motors this size so id be curious to see if anyone is using it.
I am going to use this boat this fall and want to try and optimize performance so I can decide if I want to keep this boat or my 692 which in in for a motor rebuild. It fishes really nice but I really miss the speed.

| try a 13 in prop will cost you 200rpm but you can afford it with running 6000, top speed will go up, hole shot will decrease a tad though, also might wanna try a bigger prop like 10 3/8 to a 11 1/4 that will also cost ya 200-300 rpm but a better hole shot and a tad more on the high end speed. Dont think ya can do both though at 6000 rpm will give up to much rpm. | |
