| I got some really nice rods and I'd like to keep them looking that way. Unfortunately green braid does not want this. I've been using a degreaser I had laying around but im not sure how it will affect the handles long term. |

| I spray household cleaner (Kaboom, 409, et cetera) on the handle and let it soak in for a few seconds. Then I wipe it off with a paper towel. At the spots where it gets the dirtiest I'll spin the rod with one hand and holding the paper towel around the bad spot in the other hand. Hard to explain on a forum, but it isn't anything mind blowing. To the best of my knowledge it doesn't damage the cork. I tried scrubbing a rod with dish soap and a toothbrush once and it took out the cork filler. I haven't had any issues with the cleaner/paper towel method. |

Location: midwest | Worrall has the right idea, Scotch brite scrubbing pad and mild soap. Harsh detergents dry out cork and cause it to break down faster. Lots of times a Scotch brite pad and water is all that is needed. |

Location: South-Central PA | All you need is denatured alcohol and a rag. No need for harsh soaps or sandpaper. Cork is a closed cell wood so it won't absorb liquids or stains. The black that you see on your cork is actually bacteria...

| Thanks jeremy. I noticed your location, if I could figure my local lake out and actually find fish consistently I would invite you up.. Unfortunately I seem to be the king of the miniature tiger and large pickerel. I do appreciate the advice though. |

| I use handle wrap on mine for a better grip but the added benefit is the cork can't get dirty. |

| At least one day each season fishing in an all-day downpour does the trick for me. Helps if it's in the 30's and you're wearing some sort of gloves. |
