Forty Plus Pounder

Here is a picture of my personal best to date. this fish was caught on a Northern Wisconsin lake on Oct. 26 on a crankbait. We did not get good measurements as I was more concerned about a good picture and release. Fish was about 52long without tail pinching and no girth measurement was taken but the picture shows how thick this fish is. I am 6'-3" and go 235# and the fish is being held tight to my body...no camera exageration. I had a hard time holding this fish and I estimate it to weigh 40 to 45 lb.s.
The fish needed no revival as it shot out off my arms back to the depths to grow bigger for the next time I catch her.

Congrats on a beauty. Sure looks like a tanker and it's nice to hear someone more worried about the fish's well being rather than personal ego. You'll definitely be rewarded with some bigger fish in the future. Yeah, Wisconsin doesn't have any big fish left in her. Eh? he,he,he.[]

I wish ya many more where that came from,

Wow, way to go Bob!!!!

Most of my pictures labeled 40plus are refering to inches... not POUNDS. That fish was a real brute. Congrats and thanks for sharing the picture with us all.

Super nice fish, Bob. I know what you mean about your body size making a big fish look smaller. I'm 6' 5" and 285 lbs. and should let other people hold my fish just to get a good perspective. Maybe I'll just hold a ruler along side the fish when taking a picture. She looks like Ms. Piggy, Bob.

Bob, at 6'3" 235lbs, who is going to disagree with you?[;)]

What a slobbosaurus. I think that is the new term to describe them.[:)]

Bob, I see you joined two days after you caught that beauty. Probably just to show off the pic. Welcome aboard, and, look forward to good advise as to how to get me one that big. Looks like a spotted (nice for your personal best)[;)]

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Yes I did post it to "show off" as I am quite proud of this fish. I always thought in the past that when I caught a fish over 40 pounds I would have it mounted but the thought never really crossed my mind when I caught it. I don't think it is a spotted ,just the way the fish looks in the picture. I have caught many fish over 30 lb.s from these waters and some of the older, bigger fish ain't to pretty. I assume that these fish are past their prime. They kind of look like big old ugly carp. This fish however looked in very good shape and has some growing to do yet.
I have used these message boards for several years but have never registered before. I have gotten a lot of good information from them but have had trouble with some of what I would call extremist views and the bashing of people, fishing methods and such. I see that has for the most part stopped and that is good.
As far as advice on catching big fish I ain't much at giving it and do not tell many people where or how I fish. The main things are time on the water, being on the right water in the right spot at the right time ,under the right weather conditions and fishing for big fish. You sacrifice action sometimes but nothing beats the action from BIG FISH.

Bob,

Congrats on the fattie!

Will you please share some info with us about the waters that you fish as well as some techniques. That is what these boards are all about.

Thanks,

Bob,

Great fish!! It even looks huge with you holding it. Just imagine how big it would look if Smith, Jenkins, or Dorazio were holding it![] [] [;)]
