| Looking for an all-around musky reel that will be used about 5 times a year. Will be used for everything from raiders to double 10's to phantoms. I'm basically looking for a reel under $150 that will last a while, if properly serviced yearly. Please comment on why you voted as you did. Thanks. |

Location: Denmark | Funny that so many have an opinion on a reel that has not proven itself yet. Also take the time to read the question asked, A reel under 150$, that should only be used 5 times a year. Get an ABU Inshore classic, if will outcast and with prober service outlast everithing out there. |

Location: Tennessee | I'd shop around for a used Toro 50 or Winch or something. May be abit over 150 but you could find a good one for close. |

| I would not hesitate to buy a new Cardiff. Very hard to beat for the money, but I would agree as stated above if you have a little more cash to look for a nice Revo. I have both Shimano and Abu stuff, but the Cardiff is my all around reel. I would not hesitate to get another. |

| I voted for the Cardiff, I have lefties, a 401 and a 201/301 (can't remember which). The 401 I bought new and have had for 3 or 4 years.
For the first couple of years I used it about 5 times a year without an issue. This year I used it probably a dozen times and half of those were for over 12 hours a day. With that being said, I did not come close to needing that much line capacity but I do not troll either.
I recently bought the other Cardiff with a smaller spool used for $70 shipped to my door which I thought was a great deal until a week later one popped up here for I think $50. I only fished with it once but side to side it was more comfortable to handle than the 401. I assume if you are throwing large baits for hours on end it may pay to have the smaller capacity one. The 400 series has a few more features but I am not sure what they are.
Overall they are a great reel and even new I feel they are probably the best bang for our buck....all I buy now are shimanos. If you get a used one you can use the rest of your budget on other musky goodies! |
