The bearings need oil. I had my first one 2 days and it was squeeling, sent it back to shimano and they sent me a new one. Took that one to Lake of the woods and by day 3 that one was casting like crap and starting to make noises. I talked to Bill Sandy about it and he said yeah the ones he's been getting the bearings have been DRY right out of the box. He suggested pulling it apart and lubing it up. Kind of a bummer for what these reels cost! Really made me upset because I was up on my trip and having never pulled one apart I wasnt about to up there. It sat on the bench the second half of the week.

I had the same issue with a 14 gold. After a good work out she would start squealing! Sent it in to shimano and problem gone!

Try to lube the bearings, giving each one drop of oil. Also be sure that the spool tension cap is not too tight. If that doesn't solve the problem, I suggest you send it to Pikemaster or Shimano for a checkup.

I do not use oil in Bearings on a Trinidad. You should pull off one of the shields on the spool Bearings and use Grease, Oil will only last maybe a week of hard fishing, Grease will last all season. I get $24.00 a reel to Detail, Tune and Relube the right way.

Lube your reels when you buy them before putting them into service. New reels are not necessarily ready to beat the hell out of in the manner Muskie anglers do, and they won't go forever without taking care of them with the proper lubrication.

If you have an issue with a reel, get it fixed. It's part of beating the reels the way Muskie anglers do, according to the whiners on some of the reel threads, there is NO reel worth buying.
